Awesome egg!!! Congrats!! What breed layed that egg if I may ask. I have never seen one like it!

It came from one of the Amberlinks I am assuming. She is the one with the most developed comb and wattles and they are really red .

Hi all - it's been a busy summer so far and we have been playing "rotate the chickens" at our house untill everyone can be put together.

Orpingtons: New Big Coop

Ameraucanas : Comming up to POL Tgrlilly! Covered outdoor run in the day, old coop at night. PS: Pesky little white rooster was pulling out everyone's tail feathers - the girls just have one or two sad feathers left: clipped his little beak back a little and he is not as bad now. Of course, now I have to do it every few weeks as it grows back because I can't bring myself to clip it way back. After all, he is a teen, he may learn manners yet.

Doris and the Beekman chicks: Free range outdoors for half hour every morning and evening, old coop durring the day, large ferrett cage (located in the old coop) at night when the ameraucanas come in.

McMurray chicks: Bin in the house. Feed and water 4 times daily. Thinking of getting a nipple waterer. They are four weeks old and so are ugly and messy.

We have Red Star, Partrige Rocks, Golden Laced Wyandottes, Australorps and Rhode Island Reds all in pullets.

Edited to add: Congratulations, Al, on your first egg. How excititing!

Happy Country Hens

Newcomer subscribing to this thread - I have 2 new silkies and am trying to teach my daughter about chickens and eventually enjoy some free-range eggs. We're located in Albany, thus the name: Stealthchickens!

Look forward to finding out from others in the area if there are any current efforts to change the zoning in Albany. Ours are in a rabbit hutch right now - my neighbors all approved of the idea, so we're starting our quiet life with 2 StealthChickens. My 3 yo daughter insisted that we eat breakfast in the yard with the "ladies" today. Too bad they were hiding under the hutch.

I am close to you, just over a bit in Feura Bush.

My zoning is Agricultural, so my chickens are "welcome" by the town ... and since I have no neighbors no one complains.

Albany is trying to change the ordinances to allow chickens. You might want to lend your voice to the calmor for a change, esp since so much of Albany isn't city lots, but more suburban lots.

Didn't albany recently pass something that allowed chickens?

ETA: Also, happy to report my chicken sitter did quite well while I was out of town for my b-day!
