NY chicken lover!!!!

Heres a Nice Site I found
Info on Chicken diseases , Breeds ,etc ..
Says Comets are egg laying machines ...usually wear themselves out after 2 years ..
I feel lucky that Budge is almost 4 years ..
I never...add lights in the winter...I let them lay naturally ..as their cycles permit

So at least I can use the codes I got from Pyxis. Any word yet from your cousin, Pyxis?

Not yet! However, I don't need an answer until April and I told her that, so she's probably still mulling it over. I think I have another backup, too - my neighbor has a chunk of land just down the road that she's never done a thing with since the horse she used to keep there passed away years ago. I don't think she'd mind renting it to me to keep my birds on if my cousin falls through. I have lots of options, and I can always keep my birds with Metella, I just don't want them to be 30 minutes from me so I'm exhausting my other options first.

@Sweetpea3829 if everything else fails you could try a giant version of a bucket trap with a barrel or garbage can with a foot of water in the bottom. Weather might be good enough next week to give it a try.

HI everyone! I'm thinking of doing a hatch in March and looking some hatching eggs to add to ours, for pickup within an hour of where I live. I am about a half hour south of Rochester. Particularly interested in Black Copper Marans and Ameracauna. Anyone have any available?

Hello and welcome to this thread! :D
I currently have silver Spitzhauben eggs available and by March, I should have gold and chamois spitz eggs as well as ayam cemani eggs. I'm located just outside of Watkins Glen. I think there's someone who has posted on this thread that has lavender americanas in Montour Falls area, but I can't remember who.

That sounds intriguing, but a bit of a drive for me. I am toying with the idea of trying some shipped eggs, but it makes me nervous. I'd also have our own eggs and some from a local pick-up in there as well. I think Watkins Glen is about 2 hours from me.

I hear you. It did feel a little crazy when I drove a couple hours for eggs, but it does increase the hatch rate over shipped eggs. Whatever works for you and your schedule. U should be able to find hatching eggs close to home. I don't know how far Syracuse is from you, but there are several people on this thread in that area who might be able to offer eggs. Marans and Americanas should be findable. Or if you go with shipped eggs, I'd recommend waiting until late April or May for warmer temperatures. And be sure to have eggs held at the PO for pick up. Hope you find what you are looking for.

Yes, I have located some BCMs about a half hour away. Syracuse is definitely too far, we are closer to Rochester and Buffalo. I'll let you know if I change my mind. Late March is my goal to set the hatch.
