NY chicken lover!!!!

Can you post a pic?  I would think you could plant along both sides and front of your property.  A nice row of "Nine barks would look nice. Nine barks are easy to propagate with cuttings. About 4 feet wide when full size and the same high. They come in nice colors too. We had Wine and it started to sprout runners that hung down.

But you could also plant along the outside of your coop for added protection.   What about a temp fencing set up.

I had to look up "ninebarks" and what a great looking shrub! Thanks for the suggestion! The chicken house might just receive a few of those this summer. I like the snow fence idea as well, but would have to convince the neighbor it's a good idea. They own the land both sides of the road where it drifts real bad. I'll just keep bribing the plow guy w fresh eggs.

Glad to hear everyone is doing well today despite this cold. It was -25 here at 7 am. I ran out to the coops for signs of life...they were good! Yesterday one of my roosters had his tail frozen to the water dish...today, he is a few feathers short.

I had a new layer today too! One of my blue isbars- beautiful little egg frozen and split...

Sad when zero degrees is 25 degrees warmer than it was!!! Stay safe!

I don't do Facebook but wife does. Gotta love all the false info people just click on and share.

This one was going around like it happened last night, without the date, that pic is the original report I found, happened last yr.
Anyway, could you imagine -110 windchill!!!

Just candled the eggs I set after the mink attack and all 3 of rivers eggs are fertile, 2 Spitz cross eggs, 1 barred rock! Only 1 questionable barred rock egg! And all but barred rocks came from the fridge! Whoop whoop

All the hens doing ok, some frostbite on the larger combed roosters & wattles. All from drinking water :( in the open bowls. They'll be fine as the ones that had it last year are fine now.

Power went out last night around 11:30pm; brought in broody & 4 wk old chicks, only to find them this morning overheated & about half of the chicks dead. They looked like they got "trampled"? So sad, as they were mostly pullets, as the roosters I'd sent to auction last Wednesday. Returned the survivors back outside when it was still -19*F, and as of tonight they're doing ok.

Im wondering why are some of your coops so cold inside ?
Are they drafty ? open windows on both sides ? too big for the chickens to heat ?
What are the sizes of these coops ?
Mine is 12' x 8' ..where they roost at night is 8' x 4 '...it has 2 roosts in there .
I half it with the blanket so they only have to heat the 8 x 4 in area

I just have 18 chickens and it rarely dips below 20 Degrees in my coop

ouch ...so sorry

8x16 and 4x8. I do not heat a coop. Don't know the temp, but even silkies OK. Good ventilation. Worst frostbite can come from dipping wattles in water in these temps. I thought about putting a top with a hole in it on my rubber pans to prevent it. Haven't had any get that yet but it can be bad.
I saw why my sussex wattles are looking not so good, they drag them across the snow and ice outside. Giant's wattles don't touch the ground when pecking.
