Okay, I want to join this thread! I'm about 15 miles from Amsterdam, NY and am picking up my RIR (+ 1 oddball for my Mom) next Thursday and would really like to be able to chat with fellow NYers!

Getting my ladies at the new Runnings store in Gloversville, the girl working there has been so darn helpful.
Welcome to BYC! I love the NY thread...lots of nice people with help to figure stuff out! We've got lots of cool options on here for chickens too...

My EWE CRAZY Hona hen is broody- WTH. She needs to get to laying! I am ready to get her a new home anyhow...time to split the hona's from the isbars and get some breeding going on!!! (Not that there isn't because my Hona loves his girls!) But, they have a nice black isbar boyfriend with silver hackles waiting!

I ordered some more isbars from GFF to hitch along with the Queen Silvia's that are coming next week. ( I may have some extras if you didn't order them at release. ) I feel like a kid in a candy store...but, they are chickens instead~ LOL

I have a rare breed assortment shipping Monday from GFF. I also have blue partridge brahma eggs in the bator. 2 different batches. Still waiting for ship date for my orpingtons, but it should be this month. So much excitement, I hate waiting.

I must have unknowlingly bid against you then. I was trying for a rare breeds also and then won the Queen Silvia and figured I better not- LOL Let me know what you get! I love the rare breed assortment because it's like Christmas!

That's how I got into my Isbars and light sussex and barbezieux. Rare breed assortment!

Hey, here's a Q.....if I get my 7 RIRs as planned, would it be a problem to add in 1 different breed chick, all the same age? My Ma has announced that she wants a "pet" and I'm thinking that they'd be okay for a bit. Maybe one of those Buff Orphingtons? Or would they hate eachother?

RIR can tend to be a little aggressive, but I'd think they would be fine. Especially if same age, and Orps are big, I'd say they would be fine together.

Do you know Josh Rockwood? I haven't been able to get a hold of him. His email must be too old. I have a cousin in Gloversville. Phil Hollister. Haven't seen him either since his dad died.

I did not know Runnings sold chicks. I haven't been there since my last trip. The feed was moldy and one time they had a fan blowing on the bags of feed so I stopped buying stuff there. Too they gave me a rain check but never called and last I knew never got the plastic in. The service here in Clay is not good. Fact is now that I think about it, there hasn't been an ad in the paper in a long time, far as I know.

Anyhow I hatch my own chicks and plan to give up chickens so if there is anything I can do let me know. The plan is to go to Alaska for a while.

Not sure how the RIR's will take to one BO. RIR's have a personality that may or may not work. I do have the odd birds with my Dels and they're fine there. Start them all together and see how it goes. Though two BO's might be better.

Forgot to say Welcome. Keep in mind on these forums you'll find more opinions than fleas on a dog. Don't let it get to you, just hang in there.
