NY chicken lover!!!!

Those are the cutest chicks! Were yours sent out monday also?

Yes mine went out Monday also. I had a power outage last night for over 7 hours. They are doing fine now but I don't hold out much hope for my eggs in the bator.

Devona, sorry for your loss, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Was just told that the landlord is selling the house. There goes all my plans. Should have took the house I saw a month back. Now there is nothing and baby is due in June. It looks like I may be canceling the rest of my chick orders.

Devona...if it was me I would watch that . If there is more than that poo then start treatment for coccidiosis. The will be spewing blood real bad in a day or two & you would know for sure as it progresses.
I would watch it too ....any more today ?
it is really not that red ..like blood would be ...chicks are healthy otherwise ?
What is that script on the poop paper ?

I'm glad most of your chicks made It ok. What do you usually give them in their water in the beginning , after traveling? When I thought I was getting day old chicks, I had bought this powdery thing that turns into a gel when u add water. The company said it rehydrates them and has some other electrolytes in there. Then I heard someone uses sugar water. I'm curious what others use.

Where would I get corid? A feed store?

You are probably talking about that green grow gel. I don't like it. Sugar water or electrolyte & organic feed.

Here is a link that explains coccidiosis on this site. Please start treating with corid as soon as you can or you might lose your chicks. It is a pretty common product and usually carried by feed stores.
It's something you may want to keep on hand just in case. I got mine at TSC. It's bovine too but just check the thread for measurement. Catsportcathy is really good with measurements etc...

Sorry about the power outage. Hopefully, everything will be okay & you will get some to hatch. Check with some of the local real estate brokers. They may have houses for sale that the person will take a renter in or know of upcoming and current rental offerings etc..

Put 11 out of 12 brahma eggs in lockdown. I saw some movement so I'm hopeful. Luckily I was able to put a hold on the duck eggs that were to ship out Monday. They offered a refund but I told them to wait. I checked with a local real estate person and found a cheaper rental but much bigger on 76 acres of farm. An older man lives there in another house, he owns it and has some chickens and goats. It's 5 bedrooms and 2 baths, should be big enough for all my kids. No dish washer tho. Huge garden too, but further for DH to travel to work. I'm going to take a look on Sunday. It's in PA, so that would mean new school, but it's not far into PA and I would not leave the thread.

I didn't see frenchy come out of the coop this AM before school and meant to check her, but forgot. This afternoon I did go in and check and she was sitting in the nestbox on an egg. So I thought what's up with this. I stuck two eggs in front of her and she tucked them under her. Then I stuck a third but she didn't take to it right away, so I stuck it under her. Remember she's over eight years old now. She was laying again, after quite a long time off, though none of her eggs were fertile. I will keep an eye on her as sitting is a lot of work for an old girl.

Yes, this morning also. It's dark red. And thick. I separated the five chicks by breed in two different cages tonight. Trying to narrow it down, so I could see which one it is, and watch her closely. I assume this coccidiosis thing is contagious? And do they do the intestinal shedding at a certain age, or is it done randomly at any age and season?

The script on the paper is Bengali, a language spoken by people in the state of Bengal in India, and also the language of Bangladesh, which used to be East Bengal in India when the entire area was under British rule.

Sorry about your home, cutipatooti. I hope you find a bigger, better, less expensive, more suitable one, well before your time in this one is up.

Thank you all for your kind words and thoughts. I didn't know her well because she lived so far away, and I've only visited three or four times, plus there was a language barrier, but she was always nice to me, tried to have conversations, even though she only knew a few words of English, and I knew next to no Bengali. She really wanted us all to go this time, but with the kids in school, and state exams coming up soon for the older one, I really didn't think I should take them. Now if I had know it would be the last time we would be able to see her,...... Well that's a different story.

If it is dark red ...I would probably treat everyone ...Adults too
This is from my Chicken Med file
- COCCIDIOSIS - It is characterised by droopiness, paleness in comb, diarrhoea, and occasional blood in the chick’s droppings.
Coccidiosis is a parasitic infection in which parasites frequently found in soil or bird feces infect the intestines of domestic birds, growing quickly. It can be fatal but any chicken surviving an infection will be immune to future infections.
Medicated feed grower feeds medicated with Amprolium do not prevent infection. Chicks receive low doses of medication to better manage infection once chicks are exposed. This gives chicks a better chance of surviving their initial infection and earning their natural immunity. Feed medicated feed until two weeks after chicks are put outside where they may be exposed.
Corid larger dose of Amprolium used to manage infection. It is easier on the chickens system than other treatments. Corid should be your first line of defense if it is available.
Sumlet 12.5% Solution this is Sulfamethazine, which is much harder on the chicken. Only use Sumlet if you cannot get Corid or if Corid proves ineffective.
say calf or bovine onCorid 20% soluable powder dosage is 1/2 teaspoon per gallon of water for 5-7 days. Dont mix anything else into the corid/water solution
Ampromed ? which is labeled for poultry but looks like Corid might be more cost effective over the long haul.
