NY chicken lover!!!!

On a somber note, my mother in law has passed. She was eighty five. She hasn't been well, and insisted my husband go visit her in Bangladesh. He left here Thursday night, got there about 22 hours later, got to the house about four hours after that, realized his mom was very weak and needed to be hospitalized. So they took her in, and she was there for a couple of days in the local hospital. Yesterday her blood pressure started dropping, and they couldn't get it back up, and suggested the family take her to a hospital in the city, which was a few hours plus a ferry ride away. She passed away before she got there. He's very broken up about it, because he spent so many years here, not seeing her, but providing for her and his siblings. He bought pain relieving cream for her arthritis, fruit juice powder to help her stay healthy because she wasn't eating solid food recently, and he feels bad because by the time he got there, she was too weak for him to give her any of these things that he got for her. I suppose she knew her time was near, that's why she insisted he go. I'm just happy that they got to see each other.

I am so sorry for your loss. It's always so hard when someone passes. At least he made it there in time...or maybe she was waiting for him to come to say goodbye. Prayers to you and your family.

Our family will be praying for yours.

My chicks from GFF arrived today, all alive and doing well so far. I got 8 barbezieux, 3 Gold East Frisian gulls, 2 marsh Daisies, and 5 twentse's. I also have blue/gold partridge brahma eggs going into lockdown tomorrow. I'm very happy with the Barbezieux but not sure if I will be keeping all the others. I also ordered welsh harlequin duck eggs, that was before I saw the recent post of the buff Orpington ducks.

Rancher, even when the chickens are gone I hope you still check in with us.
Here is a pic of the group and a pic of one of the barbezieux
Those are the cutest chicks! Were yours sent out monday also?

@Beer can how close to Harpursville are you? Those wild pigs are no joke , but they taste good if done properly. I'm just curious how close they are to me.

Masonville, 20-22 miles. I haven't heard of anyone around here seeing them. They were open season then DEC decided it wasn't working, getting smarter, and stopped all hunting of them. They are supposed to be trying to get rid of them with traps and helicopters. I called the DEC, they said you can't hunt them but if they are destroying your property or endangering your livestock or you or your family than you can shoot them. It was gone by time I got back outside. I was going to shoot it anyway before I called DEC, but good to know it would have been OK. Didn't hurt the chickens, and none got out, pulled the fence up out of the ground and squeezed under it. Have my trail cam back there now. Never thought I'd have to worry about a pig....

It would have been nice, now I have to worry about it coming back when I'm not around. They adapt and get super smart, military base somewhere has a bounty on them, day hunting quit working so hunters started spotlighting, they got smart to that, now they are using night vision. Guy at the DEC said they have three litters a year, and eat lots of wild turkey eggs.

Yes, shodack, in the daytime they're in a mesh enclosure in the backyard, where the hens walk around, and if the chicks stick their heads out, and a hen is close by, it gets pecked. And a couple of times when I was transferring them to their night cage, one escaped, and got chased and pecked. At night they sleep in the same shed, just that the chicks are in a cage within the shed, and the hens sleep right next to them. Hopefully in time, they will sort things out.

it is a size thing ..pecking order ...it should all work out when they chicks are grown ..

Red in poop ..have they had tomatoes ?
They do occasionally shed intestinal lining which is normal
