NY chicken lover!!!!

Would it have had something happen internally  to it when it got knocked off the table?

I don't lower the temp at hatching.  I really like the spot check. I bought that when I had the styrobator and already invested in three wrong thermometers.  Do the ice bath test on the thermometer. I If it was me I would have set it at 101 also.

How did your other hatches go? Slow development and late hatches?  If so,  that's low temp issue.

Thanks, I will have to look into the spot check. I have the one from incubator warehouse. It has a stand and I put the whole thing in the incubator. Not sure how I would check that with an ice bath. I'm sure I can check my meat thermometer with an ice bath. My last hatch was a few days behind and one chick had a messed up leg. Only 3 hatched and we culled the messed up leg chick as it was never going to be able to stand. I'm hoping I hear peeping tomorrow. I had most of my shipped eggs develope to hatch day and never hatch. Most are head between the legs. Not sure if it's a shipping issue or incubator.

How long do you rest the eggs before you put them in the incubator?

I did one hatch recently with a lower temp at the end and it worked out really well!

Got my two new cemani cockerels in! They're both very pretty. I wanted to take pictures but as soon as I put them in my eglu (where they'll be living for at least two weeks for quarantine) they ran into the house part and wouldn't come back out.

I'm actually really happy - I only paid for one. They sent me a second one free of charge, and it's not like they were offloading a horrible quality one - he could definitely be used as a breeder and he'll be my backup cockerel for now. Anyway, I managed to get them both banded and into my records so now they're accounted for and soon enough they'll be fertilizing eggs for me.

I did however manage to snag a picture of Pretty Boy enjoying the sun. I wanted to get one of Leo too but he was a brat and avoided me. I'll try again in a little bit since I have to go back out to collect the afternoon eggs.

I get to set eggs at 10 tonight. So when it comes time to lock down I do that at 10 pm on the 18th day? 99.1 degrees with 50-60% humidity? It's the bator from TSC so it's nothing fancy. Hubby was nice and got me the egg turner.

I'm usually never too specific on lockdown time - I just lock them down whenever I happen to remember on lockdown day :) At 99.1 yours will probably be hatching a little late, so I would just keep that in mind and don't panic if they don't hatch on day 21. If you're running the incubator as still air the optimum temp is 101.5 measured at the top of the eggs. If you're doing forced air, then it's 99.5 measured anywhere in the incubator. So at 99.1 yours should still hatch but they'll most likely be a little bit late :)

So up to 101.5 it goes. Woo hoo!!! I'm starting to get excited about my first home hatch.

Also just watch it a bit when you put the eggs in - they act as heat sinks themselves so the temp can get a little higher once they are all warmed up. And make sure you're running the turner when you're setting the temp because the turner motor actually puts off enough heat to affect the temperature. So just keep an eye on it for a few hours after the eggs go in :)

Went back out and got eggs and Leo was nice enough to let me get some pictures along with one of the frizzle pullets. The cemani cockerels were out in the run part of the eglu but ran right back into the house part as soon as I got close
