The first year my poor Nick did fine. Last year however Nick and Uncle George got frost bit. Very sad looking combs. And I had heat lights in the coop to no avail. I even rubbed vaseline on their combs. I'm thinking of hanging one of those "oil filled" heaters in the coop this year.

But then I have a hoop coop with a roo in it and i'm worried about him. I've even thought of having a winter set up just for roosters with heat. If I showed I surely would need a place to keep his comb safe.

I'm considering selliing some of my del hens. How much do you think I can get? These would be young girls just started laying this spring. They are laying full sized eggs. Feed prices keep going up and I'd like to cut costs. I figure to sell 6 at least.

Also I have three EE that lay brown eggs. Would it be worth it to hang on to these girls and cross them with my Lavender Ameraucana roo? Would their chicks lay colored eggs? Two of these girls are barred and just started laying. I do have two other hens laying colored eggs and would also hatch some of their eggs when I do. Just not til spring of course.

Thanks,

Rancher

Oh one more thing. Has anyone been in contact with tgrlily? I have e-mailed her but no answer and I haven't seen her on here in some time. I wonder if she's ok?

My sons will be playing their first soccer game Tuesday. Does any one know how the roads are between Greenville and Middleburgh (NY 145)? They will actually be playing in Carlisle/Sprakers.
