I have chicks due to hatch tomorrow. I already have a pip in 1. My first hatch is 3 weeks and doing very well. Got more eggs to hatch because we no longer have to move. That being said we are looking into working on a beef farm in exchange for free rent and utilities. We also get paid a bit. We can get extra if we run the greenhouse and garden. It's just something we are going to look into. It would be a great learning experience.

Just what is wrong with people? They discard living, breathing creatures like they are garbage.... .  Well done Pyxis, looks like you have quite the job with those mites.
 On a sadder note, my 'second in command' bantam rooster died yesterday and today one of the older hens' had just keeled over in the night. To make matters worse, our ginger cat has gone missing . All in all, I am hoping for a more inspiring start to 2017.

Pyxis, you're a saint. Those poor little chickens must be so confused.
What are you treating the scaly leg mite with? I had some EEs once upon a time that had it, though not as bad as your foundlings. I gave each a warm soàk in blue Dawn sudsy water & then a clean water rinse, dried them off and massaged olive oil into their legs. ***Online 'How To' said Mineral oil, but Olive was what I had. LOL. Aside from fear of frying, the birds all recovered. However, all of them list all of their scales, which grew back very slowly.

I dosed them all with Ivermectin to kill them off, which as a bonus will also kill any worms if they have those. That alone should do it, but to speed it up I'm also going to either use some Vaseline or Red Kote on their legs. Just giving them a few days off of being manhandled by me before I do it since they've had a pretty stressful couple of days, poor little guys.

Thanks for the offer - I still have George, and since the General is related I don't want to inbreed too much. I will be getting some new D'Uccles this year (

) to integrate with the older ones. That way the genetics are a bit more diverse......and maybe I can sell some more to you

So cute!! I've read about the Malines. They seem like a fantastic breed that really needs & deserves breeders like you to keep them around.
