NY chicken lover!!!!

I hear that. Our neighbors have taken to playing the drums and it's so loud you can hear it in the house. I pray they will move, go away or their drum sticks will break.  I'd appreciate anyone else praying this prayer too. There was a fence that ran the length of their back yards but they torn it down and burned it so now I can see their houses through the woods.  They say "good fences make good neighbors", but no fences don't make no neighbors.  I wonder if everygreens will grow fast enough. I've seen saplings on CL.

I hope that things progress for the better in your situation.

That would drive me crazy. People can be very inconsiderate. It's not that difficult to sound proof a room. I think there are some really fast growing evergreens - but fast growing is still 10 years. I planted a few more shrubs and pines along the road, hoping that in a few years we will be able to block that out a bit too.

I lived in town for 10 years, and I don't ever want to go back to it. We house shopped for a couple years, we had a budget of course - but my main concern was not having neighbors I could see. We have some lovely neighbors, lots of nice people, but I grew up in a rural setting and I missed the privacy. We have lots of people who bike down our road, but I'm glad I don't see anyone else's backyard. My significant other grew up in NYC, and always lived in cities. I think it took him a year to get used to the quiet.

Hello,  I'm JK from the Hudson Valley area near west point.  I have a flock of 10 hens 2 roosters and 8 chicks growing out in the brooder.  I mainly have cochin bantams but just got buff orpington bantam chicks and porcelain d'uccle bantams.  Glad to see a lot of New Yorkers on the site

Where did you get your D'Uccle from?

We have 5 acres, so plenty for us. We'd just like to buy so that no one else will ever buy it. We like not being able to see any neighbors. The guy doesn't live on the land - but he has 100 acres or so. He has a U shape around us, and some across the road. They have 4 wheelers and snow mobile trails.

We've got 5 kids, and we are really active in our town and at the schools. Houses in our town are hard to come-by and we wouldn't want to leave the school/town. We found two that we considered about a year ago....but one had no out buildings at all and was on a hill - lots of land....but none flat. The other house was over 5000 sq ft and needed a lot of updates. I couldn't imagine the heating bills. It's all oil out here, or propane. No natural gas. So it gets pricey to have a giant house.

You sound a lot like me. I have 5 kids and the property around my house is u shaped and owned by someone who won't sell. I looked into several houses in our area and nothing worked out so far. We rent now but not quite ready to buy. Some of the houses we looked at that are larger actually had a lower heating bill because they had better windows and insulation. Everything is oil heat here too.

We are looking at another place this weekend

Are they porcelains? From a hatchery or a breeder? I might be interested in some eggs at Chickenstock if they aren't hatchery quality :)
