Does anyone know what breed this one month old cockerel is? Barred rock maybe?

I just cleaned the coop, and it's a muddy mess already. Muddy eggs, muddy shavings, muddy chickens.

There's probably no way to teach them to wipe their feet is there?

My coop has a covered area with gravel before they get in to the shavings. They don't wipe their feet, but a lot of junk comes off in that little bit of space.

A covered area would be nice. Maybe once I finish my 100 other projects I can add that on to the current coop, or better yet, I'll make sure I add one to the new coop!

FishMtFarm - Barred Rock or Cucko Marans - are the most likely breeds ... depends on the order you placed ? If from a breeder -they surely can tell you.

It's hard isn't it? I want ALL the chickens. I browse the eggs and chicks forums, or the rare breed sale/swap and I realize there are all these chickens that I suddenly need to have! I don't know how people stick to one breed.

It is.
I expect 84+ eggs to be delivered to me in the next few days. Assuming no losses and extras I should be able to fill my 90 egg incubator.

my silkie decided to go broody... again... I'd let her sit on a clutch but she likes to do her broody poops and eat and then sit in a different nesting box.... silly girl

Try to remove all the extra eggs .or you can a screen over the box ...
It sounds cruel...But you let her out twice a day to let her eat and poop and she will be fine ..
and no one else will add eggs to her nest either
