my silkie decided to go broody... again... I'd let her sit on a clutch but she likes to do her broody poops and eat and then sit in a different nesting box.... silly girl

I have one like that, instead I just give her chicks.

Any of yas use watering cups for their chicks.... I put them in a gallon jug... Cuz well they are still in the brooder....still too cold ... And had to upgrade size of brooder. I had to stitch the waterer cuz the one we had they fill with sand....or they put the paper towel in it.... Are the waterers too complicated for the chicks? They dont seem to get the concept .... Or do i just deal with changing the water constantly... With having to leave during day i dont want them without water.

I'm doing the same thing, tired of the regular water dish full of shavings. I tried the rabbit water bottle in prior year, chicks took to that well but it leaked. I don't expect any problem with the chicks learning to use the cups, but will watch them.

I was using a 2 liter bottle with a regular chicken nipple in the cap but, it drips a lot when they drink causing the bedding to get very wet. So I just built a new one using a horizontal nipple. We'll see how that goes. As soon as I put it in they attacked it and the bedding under the nipple is still dry.

One of my hens is considering going broody! :celebrate
I have to get some more nest boxes built. The hens have been finding spots in the run to lay and the eggs have been cracking with the weather.
I have to clean the coop too. I've been putting it off, but the weather is supposed to improve this week.
I tested my incubator. I'm going to rewrap the wires to make sure they aren't loose, but it is otherwise great.

I just cleaned the coop, and it's a muddy mess already. Muddy eggs, muddy shavings, muddy chickens.

There's probably no way to teach them to wipe their feet is there?

My silkie just started laying again today!!! After breaking her broodiness in December. The silkie rooster was thinking about attacking me today! He thinks he's so big!!!

One of my hens got attacked by something and her crop is ripped and hanging off to the side. I cleaned her up and brought her inside. To me it looks like it would need to be sewed up. Any input to how I can treat her at home would be greatly appreciated.

I realized in my original post I put crop instead of comb (it's been a rough morning )
So one of my girls comb is ripped and I read about dubbing, how terrible is this process?

HI Arielle, never had to deal with a ripped comb so can't offer specific help, other to say then when various health questions have been on this thread before I've seen them referred to another thread specifically for emergencies and injuries, so maybe you can find some tips on there? Assuming you can search for it on home page.....
