NY chicken lover!!!!

Where did they ship from? My worst experience has been with eggs shipped from TX. FL and CA have been ok, but something about the route between TX and here last year was awful. I spent a LOT and got no hatched chicks. I'm hoping the weather and USPS cooperate with safe travels for my eggs next week.

At least Little Girl is interested. My kids think it's old news.

Wyandottes from FL. The others from GA, only a couple of those were tossed, but they arrived a day early as well so less time in transit.

Yeah shipped eggs aren't the best they always crack on the way so i just let my hens and roosters do the job.

One of my hens is considering going broody! :celebrate
I have to get some more nest boxes built. The hens have been finding spots in the run to lay and the eggs have been cracking with the weather.
I have to clean the coop too. I've been putting it off, but the weather is supposed to improve this week.
I tested my incubator. I'm going to rewrap the wires to make sure they aren't loose, but it is otherwise great.

Vaseline may help but needs to be applied EVERYDAY.  As for the insulation. Humidiity is the cause of frost bite. Poor ventilation is the cause of to much humidity. I hung a Hygrometer/Thermometer in my coops.  Keep things as dry as possible.  Chickens like dog do not sweat and therefore exhale a great deal of humidity.

Loss on the comb  only affects the appearance but it's still to be avoided if possible. Bagbalm, vaseline that type of stuff needs to be applied. It's not bad for your hands either.  Just keep a pocket of paper towels handy or hang some in the coop..

We use bagbalm for all our animals and us....love bag balm

Any of yas use watering cups for their chicks.... I put them in a gallon jug... Cuz well they are still in the brooder....still too cold ... And had to upgrade size of brooder. I had to stitch the waterer cuz the one we had they fill with sand....or they put the paper towel in it.... Are the waterers too complicated for the chicks? They dont seem to get the concept .... Or do i just deal with changing the water constantly... With having to leave during day i dont want them without water.

I tried it for the "bags" under my eyes but it didn't work well.

I've never had trouble with the plastic waterers. I just cut 2x6's and stack them up as the chicks get bigger. Same with the feeders.
