NY chicken lover!!!!

Itsy looks like a nice view. Of course it will look a lot different when it is dressed in white. Hope you get the coop done in time for the snow, which may be Thursday.

Movin on. Had to pull the eggs from the broody this am. Last night I noticed a new hen on the nest and this am found a dead chick out of it's shell but cold. I yanked out the incu and dd brought in the rest of the eggs. One was peeping and it hatched while I was out this am. What I thought was all Dels is a black ee. Or so I think. If I'm right and the comb is rose, it's a roo. Comb seems large to me.

Now there is another peeping and three more that I candled and seem to be alive. Two were tossed so out of 10 to start there are 5 left. I do hope at least one other hatches so I don't have a loner to raise.

I have no idea which Del hen was originally broody. I have one hen with no yellow band from worming but she seemed disinterested last night, so she may have said "forget this I'm outta here". Females are so moody and unpredictable.

Lord help me I have no idea what I'm going to do with chicks at this time of year. Plus I have no brooder set up. I asked God why me? I try to be good I really do. So far no answer, just a lot of rumbling over head.

I just sold 9 hens cuz I figured no one is buying eggs and winters comin on, and wouldn't you know people order eggs. I didn't really want to sell Dels cuz they are my best winter layers but such is life.

The new BR's may start before the end of winter but I don't know. The roo is crowing but hens they take their time.

I have been checking the new girls and according to the bones they should be laying but I'm not getting many eggs. I wonder if these girls are going to be good layers or not. The ee's are nearly two and laying but the new orps and rir's are not. I do have some new ee's and I'm not sure how they are doing. They're brown egg layers. I hope to cross them with my lavnder amer roo.

Well take care everyone and itsy have fun sliding down that hill,

Pm me if interested.

No eggs today. Guess they don't like being left in the coop for 2 full days in a row. Oh well, I wasn't planning on eating eggs any time soon anyway.

Oh and the ONE silkie hen (I got out of the 5 I bought) is NOW broody. Silly chicken. IF my Brahma lays a couple of eggs soon I'm gonna give her those eggs to sit on. I won't care if they don't hatch and if they do, I'll have more hens. (I'm only gonna allow hens to hatch, no roos.

Is there anyone in the Corning NY area? Someone posted on the Albany CL regarding abandoned poultry in that area. The property is abandoned and the birds were just left. I have no further details since it was a Craig's list posting. 30 chickens, 24 ducks and 2 turkeys. Sounds like winter dinners to me, but I am too far away. I suspect that the owner died and didn't just walk off leaving the place, but who knows in this economy what happened. The poster wanted info on who to contact to save these birds.....so if you can't take them, but live in the Corning area and know who to contact to save the birds, let me know, I'll forward the info to the CL Poster.

(I already emailed the person telling them to join BYC and post to this thread, so if they do so, you have me to blame.

What is with the Orps? I bought 4 buffs that were laying & stopped 2 weeks ago even though I have lights on and feeding 21 egg producer. My lavendar Orp pullets 6 months old and nothing yet, not even comb redding up....arg. I got one egg today out of about 60 hens....what gives?
My Light Sussex pullet laid another egg, but took 2 weeks off.

I'm bringing 3 Coronation pullets from Crossroads that are from Georgia...what will they do in this winter cold? LOL

You'll have to let me know your secret to hatch all hens!

My broody with five chicks has at LEAST one roo, maybe two or three. Pretty sure two are girls but...

I got 10 eggs today from my new layers (17 pullets) and 7 eggs from my older ladies. My leghorns are still cranking out an egg a day! I keep wondering when they will take a break for the winter, but not complaining.

Well there are 9 eggs in the basket today.

I did see the BBS in the nest box today and I know two of the ee's laid and egg. Not sure how many are Del eggs but most likely most of them. I've yet to see a Lav orp in the nest box or a RIR. Marq - where did you get your lavenders? I saw some nice ones or was it eggs for sale? I don't remember where.

Now another chick hatched looks to be a Del. I most likely will hang on to it roo or pullet since Nick is nearly three. I'll be separating him and his original girls to keep the line going. Saving all I can get from them. Lord I need some strength and money. ( where can I get a praying emoticon?)

There are three eggs to go but I suspect I'll be pulling these two chicks before they're ready to hatch. Judging from when I candled them.

Well have to relax with Alex, be good.

FYI, I'm hoping to order Red orps from GF, so if I can sell you something that's what I'll be using the money for.
