We have about an inch. Roads at higher elevations slushy. NO EGGS. May I have more eggs and less snow please?????

my 'big' girls (chickens 9 months old to 1.5 years old) only gave me 4 eggs today. Not counting the broodies and one that's molting to pieces, that's 4/15. However, I got 10/18 from my pullet coop!

I've also got 7 more not quite old enough to lay so not counting those or the chicks, obviously

.

a bit more than an inch here so far, but slushy.. and still coming down. Was going to nyc tomorrow but now I think I'll stay home since it'll be clear tomorrow. And probably pretty.

I just started putting the dog bowls out in the coops - only was able to get one plugged in but will find the extension cords for the others tomorrow. Just watch, I'll get the cold weather stuff in and it'll be 80F again in a week.

No snow here yet. Thank you, thank you God.

6 eggs here today. out of three times as many hens. In all fairness some are older than two but not many and some are new layers as of the end of summer. I don't really care as long as I can get enough for sales, and not to many more than sell. I could deal with at least 10 - 12 a day.

I noticed it was 40* in the hoop coop which considering that's not a bad temp and I would be glad for that for the winter. One thing you don't want is for it to be to warm. Warm brings in the humidity and that can cause resp. problems.

Well take care,

Rancher

Love the site, and understand your concerns. If each of us does what we can to educate the rest of the population maybe we can stop or reduce the damage.

For me , Anyone who thinks Hydro - Fracking is safe you are dead wrong. It is not. Once you inject something into the earth you can NOT filter it back out. I know I've done a research paper on the affects of BTEX on drinking water. There IS NO filtration system that can 100% remove toxins from the water , air or soil. NONE, ZIP, ZILCH.

OP hope you get chickens soon.

Hydro-fracking is bugging me too. How can pumping hazardous chemicals into the ground be safe? It's not going to dissapear. There is only so much fresh water and poisoning it is not a good plan. There are other ways to get energy.

Hydro fracking scares me. If our water is poisoned here and it will be it if is fracked, we all will be.......well, we'll all be fracked.....our homes will be worth nothing if we can't live here. Hydro fracking is just plain a bad idea. Have you saved energy today? I have given up a clothes dryer...everything dries in the wind. In the winter on racks over the heating vent. It does take planning and more work, but it is my contribution for saving energy.

It has been snowing like a mad fiend over in Pittsfield and here in the sticks. We have a big tree limb that's bent down and is touching the roof covering our front walkway. Fortunately, the snow appears to be letting off, so maybe the thing won't snap. I hate the roof, as it's cruddy and slapped together, but I'd rather not have a complete mess in front of the house either.

I'm not an alarmist, but we in NY only need to look at PA and the problems they are having there with water catching fire and being so contaminated it's unusable. The earth is like your body. If you inject it into your foot it will travel to your head. Just look at these drug "patches".
I say all this to encourage folks to put the pressure on the government to deny fracking. Regardless of what the energy companies say , we know they lie, lie , lie. And hire people to lie for them.

While we can't stop or fix everything, we can still do what ever it is we can do. Drying clothes outside is fine. It helps save energy and keeps up from getting fatter.

I don't expect everyone to agree but , I do know that man won't destroy the earth. But it doesn't mean we shouldn't take care of it just the same.

We do what we can, I can't feed the world but I can give to feed one family.

I agree. Do what you can. Buy energy saving light bulbs and appliances. Dry your clothes without a dryer. (We do too, and for a family of 5 that's ALOT of laundry!), recycle - don't just pitch stuff in the trash, compost, garden heat with a renewable energy (we use wood). There are many things that can be done easily and save money. Everyone dosen't have to "live off the grid" just do your part in helping. Not that I don't envy those that are able to live "off the grid".

I agree with all the above statements...here a family of 7 and we do what we can ...I do use the dryer put as little as possible..turn lights off..we keep the house much cooler then alot of folks..

We didn't get snow...kids were so disappointed..out in western NY my Mom and sister's did...

Hey, Tab how is that goose?

On a funny note...had a lady call me looking for a rooster!

Yep you heard right! Now she is taking a roo or two and a few older...just over 2 yrs old hens...man the DH is going to be happy...and I can get a few more!...

We got 13 eggs yesterday out of 30 possible layers..up from the past days..We moved the coops and haven't put electric down there yet...I may get brave and see if we can run a cord...like you Rancher I sell eggs to help with the cost and need those eggs...BTW my mother loves her Dels...

Everyone have a great day and try to enjoy the snow...it could be raining...

Just got a weather alert for a winter storm warning for Ulster from Saturday into sunday. 7 inches called for. Guess we have to move the tractor into its winter parking spot. I will have to dig out the cookie tin heater as well and run the cord to the coop. Love those heavy duty outdoor extension cords. Dh promised me a piece of tin for the silkie run but I might have to tarp it if he doesnt get it today. Sigh. I was hoping for a little more time to get things set.

Following the above posts. In total agreement. Huge fight going on down here over fracking. We are trying our best to keep these companies out of here. There are already a couple of towns around here whose wells are contaminated. Just not worth the price of admission.
