Hello, rancher hicks!!!
You have beautiful chickens!!! I love your pics!! If you weren't so far away, I'd definitely buy your Delawares!!! I've started a flock of them this year........hatched eggs from 2 different breeders. I'm a member of the ALBC.......I love raising rare and endangered breeds of ducks and chickens.

Hello, Everyone!!!
I just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Holiday this weekend........Easter, Passover or whatever you may be celebrating, I hope it's fantastic and memorable!!! I hope all of you are out enjoying this beautiful weather.......about time!!!!
Tax season will soon be coming to an end....hurray!!!! I've been helping friends and family with their returns since early February. I only have 2 more to finish up.
I gave up looking for the charger to my digital camera.......so I ordered a replacement online. It finally came in yesterday...so I can finally take pics again. I'll take some of my ducklings and chicks today. I'd like to post some here on this thread.....but I'll need some help with that one!!! I don't have a teenager around....I'm on my own(smile). I have no problem attaching pics to personal emails.....I'm just not sure how to post them here.
Regards, Kathy

Which breeders did you buy eggs from? How has being a member of the ALBC benefitied you? Has it helped in breeding Delawares? How many Delawares have you got? I'd like to keep a circle of Delaware keeper connected so we can monitor and develope a deep gene pool. The chicks I have in the brooder now came from Speckled hen. The rooster posted came from a woman here in NYS so I have no idea it's heritage. I had intended to buy from Dolce in Oregon but she has hatchery stock. Whitmore farms I also understand has hatchery stock. If you know of any good breeders I'm always interested so either you or they can contact me. I am open to shipping eggs from my NYS birds. Right now is a good time as there are no other blood lines involve. I'm always open to sale or trade. Doesn't have to be chicken related either. I got a bale of hay, #of goat cheese and 2 bars of goats milk soap one time just to give you an idea. But I will trade hatching eggs for hatching eggs. Anything, questions I post are open to anyone who cares to answer or get involved.

I'm in Syracuse, how far are you from here.

I am in CAmillus

Well then stay in touch. What breeds do you have? Got pics? Have you or anyone you know showed chickens at the fair? Last poultry show they had there didn't have very many of the breeds I like or a very big variety either. Anything I can do for you don't be afraid to ask ok? Stick my e-mail on your list.

HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, the DH and I were going to cook some nice steaks on the grill today for our easter dinner, DH went out to the porch to take the winter cover off, and I'm inside. All of a sudden I hear him saying "WHAT THE HECK????? HEY AMY YA GOTTA COME HERE!!!" so I ran out and he says, "Go look under the grill cover!", I do and lo and behold I see one of my speckled suxxex in a little dark area under the grill cover, I tell him to grab her and get her outta there....he tried to.... then we both see her raise up and theres about 10 eggs under her!!!!

Hope she goes back to sitting on them! Guess you wont be using the grill for a while if she does lol. What a place to sit lol thats too funny! I've got another broody hen too!
wee.gif
I went out yesterday,, let them all out of the coop, went to get the eggs and they are all warm, like someone was sitting on them. I didnt know who ws broody becasue they were all running around at that point, so I left the eggs in there. So my little d uccle hen is sitting on a clutch of 8 eggs lol. She looks pretty determined since yesterday so I figured I would let her lol. She has her own eggs as well as the ones she stole from all the others lol. So in 3 weeks we should have some more chickies if all goes well. Anyone going to want some chicks soon lol. I've got some roos

So dh and I took a quick trip down to rent a movie and when we got back, the Guineas were going crazy. I let them go for a little while and then decided to go out and check on them. I was a bit nervous, as they were all (all 4 Guineas) in the coop and my Araucauna roo was lying in the corner. They like to tangle with him and I started to get a bit upset. Then he started moving. WHEW! When I went into the coop, the Guineas were over in the corner, screaming at 2 little bantam eggs lying on the floor! I snatched them up, which thankfully shut the Guineas up, and checked them out! WOOHOO!! My first, non-frozen, eggs had FINALLY arrived!! They were cool though, so I don't know how long they have been here!! I brought them in and stuck them right in the incubator. (Should I have put them on the counter, big-end up first or is that just a shipping thing?). For some reason, I just decided to go back down to the coop. I found one more right outside the coop door and another one in the corner where the roo had been rolling around. It is almost as if he dust-bathed in a nest on the floor and was kicking them around! Now there are a total of 4 eggs in my bator. Two are slightly smaller than the others, so I am hoping (even though I doubt it) that my little Sebright hen has started laying too! How long could they have been out there for before they are no longer hatchable? Why is my little Silkie hen not using the nesting boxes?! Why isn't she sitting on them?! lol I guess that I will be making more frequent trips to the coop, with my eyes a bit more open!!

Regardless, I just wanted to share my excitement! My hen started laying this winter, but she was doing it on the ground then too and they were frozen and cracked by the time I found them, so these are my first "real" eggs!! lol

Aaahh! I just found FOUR more eggs over next to the coop!! They were laid under the tire of a bicycle that had been knocked over! Three of them were like cold little stones, but they went into the bator too. What the heck?! lol

GREAT NEWS EVERYONE!!!!!!!!

DH was showering after work, I was in the kitchen making Dinner, the guineas starting SCREAMING like CRAZY!!!!! I went to the back door to look out, and the very fox was between my house and the coop!! DH ran for the shotgun, the fox ran into the field then CAME right back! This was like not even 5pm today! DH got the fox thank god!!!

I don't know that I've ever seen one that early in the evening? It was a male so I guess that means theres a momma and babies around some where?

Sorry if this post offends anyone,
