NY chicken lover!!!!

Wow- I wish I could get rid of my 5 (maybe 6 if he keeps stomping at me!) Brahma Roosters! I have tried every avenue, even craigs list & here.
The bums!

I do have 18 eggs in the incubator- so I'm sure I'll have more as well.

Hi Jen!

How did you make out with all the rain? Our yard got flooded pretty good in back, but we only got a little water in the basement, so we were good

I have more than a couple roos to get rid of too lol, hope I have good luck like you did! And sorry I did get a chuckle when reading you shot your rooster instead of the possum! Sorry you got your roo though. I just wasnt expecting to read that lol.

I know what you mean about resisting going to the store lol. Had to go get feed today and I dont know how I resisted the cute chicks and ducklings, and the fact that both kids were with me lol, but we came home with no new additions today lol.

4 more eggs are starting this morning. I am not sure why the one yesterday morning was so early. He already looks like a he. The comb looks larger than what I usually see on a day old chick.

Had a fox looking at me in the back yard yesterday. Made it through the winter without any attacks so I was hoping I wouldn't have problems with them this summer. My dog tore off after it so it didn't get any chickens.

I have in the incubator right now, due on April 10th, about 14 silver laced wyandottes, bantam ameraucanas, and some old english game bantams that are the ginger red, white ginger (?) and some blue wheaton if anyone is interested - I candled all, and there seem to be 24 total that are going to hatch. What was I thinking when I bought all these, I'll never know. I have some turkens, buff brahmas, etc. coming in May, so I really need to part with these when they hatch. Anyone interested, PM me

So almost all have started coming out but only two have hatched. Seems like they are taking too long. How long do you guys usually expect from the initial hole until hatch?

Does anyone in the central NY area either want a black 5 day old mutt chick or have 1 or 2 about the same age that I can add to her brooder? I was expecting 6 BCM eggs to hatch by today & have NOTHING! She is a lone survivor of a prior hatch and is driving me CRAZY! I can't sleep as she's in my bedroom.

I even went to TSC to get a friend for her, but was told rather rudely that I couldn't buy anything less than 6 chicks.

I have 18 eggs in my new incubator, but they're only on day 5-6 & my poor chick is miserable.

I am so disappointed in my hatching experience so far!

I mapquested and I think you are too far away( I am 14487). I would have been happy to take or give.

I guess I was to impatient as 4 have hatched since I questioned how long it should take.

Hi Everyone!
I posted all of my Roosters on Craigslist, thinking I only had a few to get rid of...well....7 later....!!! They are all gone! I kept three, a pure cuckoo maran, pure giant blue cochin and pure STUNNING golden laced wyandotte. I can't believe I fed 10 bums all winter! What was I thinking?

We had a fox/coyote attack this morning and I lost a few of my younger cuckoo marans but they were not 100% pure, but it is still very upsetting. I've got the coop locked up tighter than ft. drum, and the shotgun handy (which I HATE shooting, the last time I had to, I missed a oppossum and killed my rooster!!!!)

My M-I-L gave me 4 of those "red light" thingies that are supposed to keep wild animals away bc they think someone is watching them, DH promised he'll put those up tomorrow. I bought a baby monitor at a garage sale last summer to put in the coop and have NO clue what I did with it.

I'm having to restrain from going to TSC right now, there's only 3 within a half hour of my place! I ordered chicks that are arriving in May and I'm planning on getting a few more at the bath auction in May too. MUST RESIST! MUST RESIST!

Well, I hope everyone is enjoying their fuzzy butts that are hatching! Take care!

Amy

If you shoot with a rifle shot you will be more accurate, shotgun fragments go everywhere, rifle shot goes only where you aim (except maybe through the object and keeps going). Then you wont accidentally shoot something you love.
Congrats on getting rid of all the roos! You seem to be the only one that is in my area, don't suppose you have any more chickens to sell do ya? I am not really interested in chicks right now, I have too much to learn before I go there and I really want a couple nice pairs and with chicks you never know! Going to Nature berry farm in macedon tomorrow to see what that place has. let me know, I really need to replace the 7 chickens I lost to that stupid fox to get my mind off them!
