NY chicken lover!!!!

I have 4 bantams & two standards so far....most of my eggs that are hatching are bantam cochins, with some BLRW (standard I think) & some BCMs too. MY mixed flock does well, but my roo is bantam. The large cochin girls barely tolerate his attention, bit I do have fertile eggs from them..

My first 4 chickens were bantans then I added 3 Golden Comets. (Which by the way are BEAUTIFUL birds with great temperments and each lay me a jumbo brown egg just about every day.) I kept them seperate for a bit but they're all living happilly together now. My 2 banty roos kept thier distance for a while but since both my banty hens are now broody:D

the little roos are giving ALOT more attention to the comets. My first broody is sitting on a few of her own eggs, and a few silkie eggs I bought. I put 3 of the Golden Comet Eggs under the other broody just to see what happens. Wish me luck! I also have 2 barred rock chicks and 2 americana chicks in the brooder. Am hoping to get a new coop built this weekend. Maybe I should start on a 3rd coop at this rate. I'm quite curious to see what my growing flock will look like by this time next month... and am definately staying away from TSC until then. My name is Karin and I am definately becoming a chicken addict!

I keep bantams with my standard flock, they do fine. My chicks in the brooder are doin well, see....amy...I knew the people at batavia TSC were gonna be of no help. I thought they were polish cause they had little muffs on their heads, but now that you say they were silkies that makes sense. And makes me happy I didn't get any, for some reason silkies remind me of pomeranians and I really don't like pomies. Sorry to all you silkie nad pomerainian lovers. I also bought 3 BLR wyandottes on sunday, 4mos old. Very nice birds, but my flock doesn't think so. They are not being very nice, not hurting them, but not very warm and inviting either. Even the smallest bird is picking on them, even though they are atleast twice her size. I guess age makes a difference in the chicken world. They are gettin enough to eat and drink and hopefully things will even out and they will stop pickin on the newbies. The BR hens I got a few weeks ago just waltzed in like they owned the place and it was a very harmonious introduction. I was hoping the wyandottes would do the same.
Now it's time to think of names, I still can't think of one for the larger BR hen and now I have 3 more to name. And then there are the babies, but I would like to know the sex before I name them. There are only so many transgendered names....like Pat..lol...."it's Pat"

Hello fellow NYers I was curious is anyone in my area or not very far away has anything for sale. I have been looking for some 'fun' chickens to add to the flock. What I mean by fun is something that lays cool egg colors or somthing different looking like silkies, cochins, frizzles ect. Im not too picky though and with my bator and brooder being empty would buy just about anything that is in my price range that I dont already have. I will take eggs, chicks, or adult birds. Thanks all! PM me with what you have, I dont check this thread often and would hate to miss something.

Sorry I just can't kepe up with all these postings.
Got rid of my CM roo and got two Lav. Ameraucanas.
Glad nice weather is here.
Bator full of eggs watch craigs for posting of chicks.
Bridgeport has small animal auctions watch for those. May be worth a drive up, down, east or west. Google Perry Goodrich. Not me just the guy who runs the auction. Come as a group. PM me I'll give you lunch. I don't live far from the auction. Don't aways go but so what. If I'm home of course. Always on a Saturday.

Where on earth did you get that idea? They are right here in my office with me. Are these girls from the same hatch? I was glad she called. I figured "hey what's two more chicks?" Thanks for selling them. I told my wife they came from the incubator. She never asked why the other eggs haven't hatched. I honestly think she's lost her mind.

Rancher Hicks - Agway has chicks near me - 10 different varieties! I could just run over and pick some up, I do have 3 different brooders on the back porch and eggs in the bator due on Sat. BUT, my DH would know.

I did see her roo. He was real nice. Don't know who she'll breed him with. If one or both of these is a hen I'll offer to breed them w/ him and share the hatchlings. Trish is real nice and I have no doubt she'll say yes.

I've got EE's and Dels from Speckledhen and now these two and don't know if either is a roo. I'm pretty suspect about the EE's but not sure.

Same with the Dels. I suspect 5 out of six to be roos. Not happy about that. I can only keep one other roo and not sure which it will be.

Expect one or more of the CM eggs that hatch to be a roo, too.

Unless a tornado comes by and drops a barn on the place.

Anyhow the Lave's are nice.

Just a reminder this is a NY chicken lover post. So everyone from NY and PA too, plan to visit during the NYS Fair. Get your BYC T-shirt so we can recognize each other. We should pick a BYC day so we make the local news and get some publicity for all us Chicken lovers. Anyone know who is in charge of the poultry situation at the Fair? Oh and any other states who want to join us.
