If you ever want eggs, let me know. I don't know who is who, but with 9 turkens in that coop, it's a good chance you'd get at least one NN egg.

I may just think about that, I have eggs we could trade.

BA, Chantecler & D'Uccles

Oh, oh, I want in on this egg eggxchange.....I will have blue eggs, from Jean's stock come spring. I want some more D'uccles. And maybe some BA's. Oh, and some turkens. Dayum, my girls better lay over time so I can trade for all the ones *I* want. But I can drive to Happyhensny's house a couple times a week, if I have to.

Everyone must have turkens!!

I have 23 chicks from the NYD hatch. Only one NN, but a lot of 'blue eggers' and some mystery chicks. Two special needs chicks (one I'm not sure will make it - shipped egg, possibly poor parent stock) and one is a sticky mess. Not sure how that happened, I had pretty wet chicks this time even with low humidity.

That little dude/dudette is really cute in an endearingly goofy way. Were it mine, I'd call it Igor, no matter what sex it is, because it just looks like an Igor to me.

Alas, I only have mutt eggs, so I'm out of the trading business, although I'm comfortably in the eating eggs ranks. The youngest girls are coming online, so I'm getting six to eight a day now. The two Leghorns continue to pump out insane numbers. I don't give them any supplemental light at all, yet at least one lays daily, and often both lay. Those birds are amazing!

In other chicken "news," I have a couple of saddles coming from one of our BYC members (her site is Louise's Country Closet) for one of my Dominiques and one of my Orps. Both of them matured quite early compared to the other girls, and were thus most subject to the cockerels' initial incompetent fumblings, resulting in some feather loss. Although neither is barebacked by any stretch, the occasional fling with one of the boys doesn't do much for their already rumpled bums. So, they're getting saddled up for a while so that their feathers can come in unmolested.

I have a pair of White Orps to give up if anyone is interested. Rooster and Hen from Hinkjc farms. I need to separate colors and I can't keep them all. She is laying and he is crowing. I've got chicks coming up so they have to go. I'm still debating on keeping the lavender roo. I have two blacks to use so he can go.

The way things are going, I'm going to need two or three more coops. Lord have mercy,

Rancher

We can meet at my house, have coffee/tea and swap eggs. Oh a party!

My D'Uccles and Chanties haven't even started laying yet! D'Uccles hatched in April and Chanties in May. Think I'll be adding some light tomorrow! BA's always lay. Great girls!

ETA: Rancher - I actually added a new coop this week and added on to my Pea/Pheasant coop. Saw, nails and dirt. Lovin' it.

Hello Everyone,
I'm new to BYC. I live in Orange county , NY in a rural area called Slate Hill. My hubby travels to NYC to work and I'm a home schooling mom to 4 children.

I have 7 Red Star hens and one red star Rooster and they've just started laying. I'm a newbie and very excited.

God Bless,
Laura

If there is any way we can help (meaning the other people who know something) ask away....if you just stopped in to chat, type away.

Home schooling is sooooo cool....I wish I had done it with my children, but the resources weren't as plentiful back then. (25 years ago my first would have gone to kindergarten)

Chickens can fill several parts of your curriculum...science, physical education and social studies (do they still call it that?) I do beleive we have a couple of home schoolers on this thread.

again
