Oh, oh, I want in on this egg eggxchange.....I will have blue eggs, from Jean's stock come spring. I want some more D'uccles. And maybe some BA's. Oh, and some turkens. Dayum, my girls better lay over time so I can trade for all the ones *I* want. But I can drive to Happyhensny's house a couple times a week, if I have to.

We can meet at my house, have coffee/tea and swap eggs. Oh a party!

My D'Uccles and Chanties haven't even started laying yet! D'Uccles hatched in April and Chanties in May. Think I'll be adding some light tomorrow! BA's always lay. Great girls!

ETA: Rancher - I actually added a new coop this week and added on to my Pea/Pheasant coop. Saw, nails and dirt. Lovin' it.

Oh, I am soooo there.

Is it spring yet?

Welcome to BYC. I have homeschooled ny kids and they have been in Christian private school. I am in Greene county, near the Ulster county line. Best wishes!

Well there you are. Glad you found us.

We are fortunate enough to have a Christian school ( Living Word Academy) where the kids all went. They're all grown now. I volunteer there now that I'm retired.

Take care,

Rancher

I'll need one or 2 more this year as well. I may try a hoop coop if I can scrounge enough stuff to do it.

The temps are going down into the single digits this week so I'll keep everyone posted as to how they do. So far they seem pretty good. It's been cold enough to freeze the water.

My DH sent me a text from work (truck driver) the other day saying he wanted to expand the big coop...don't know which one he considers the big coop, since we have 2 4x8s and one 5x6. I am hoping to talk him into one large one...maybe a hoop coop. Also don't know where the $$$ will come from...We'll see...

I'm still thinking about those turkeys (I haven't pulled the trigger yet), and want to do a batch or two of meaties, but if we do either/both, I'll probably go with hoop houses for them.

Rancher, I bought my four-year-old nephew three Minerva Louise books for Christmas, and have been asked by my sister to thank you for the recommendation, as he LOVES them! He laughs his head off every time they read one of the books, and keeps saying, "Silly chicken! I want silly chickens!" She's raising that kid up right!

We actually built a coop with pallets. I don't work in the summer so had time but no $. Took ages to get them apart and then to nail the shorter pieces with nails from yard sales to build a coop but it worked. Good luck!

Cass - we are on!

Definitely would love blue eggs whenever we have that get together! I may even take a d'uccle egg or two since now I am sure my cats won't eat them - have two little EE/leghorn looking crosses that are very bantam sized and are doing fine.

Would prefer LF tho. I only have mixed mutt eggs, but they are cool mutts - EE roo over turkens, lt and dark brahma, SS and assorted other things. Still no Leghorn/EE, my leghorns and my roo don't seem to care for each other. They like me better.

My baby chicks are doing great! Even my two special needs chicks are rallying. One may have only one eye BUT I think that eye might actually be there, just pasted under somewhere. Had to splint up a splay leg. The chick with the splay and the chick with one eye are from the same seller - I never get stuff like that so I may not buy from that (ebay) person again. Just in case. Might just be incubator placement or some silly thing.

Just now culled my BO with wet fowl pox. She was a gigantic gorgeous chicken and was only 8 months old or so. I hate hate hate doing that but she was only deteriorating. /sniff. It's still possible she might have recovered, but she was wheezing from all the pox and hadn't eaten in days. Couldn't let her suffer and then find out she was going to die anyways.

ah well. At least this time I did it correctly and didn't have to do it again. I need to hatch another BO in her memory.

Going to actually be cold this week, can ya believe it?
