NY chicken lover!!!!

Featherz--sorry to hear you had to make the call and do the deed. I hate that part of keeping animals but dont like seeing them suffer either.

Rancher--I think you and I are in the same predicament. I keep looking at eggs and soooo very badly want to get some but I have to build some coops first and that just isnt going to happen yet. We have yet to finish building the woods style coop we started.

I am going to worm my cheeps today and would like to confirm what I have read with all of you out there who have used eprinex pour on that LF get .5ml and bantys get .25 ml, to be repeated 2 weeks later. That seems to be the consistant dosaging I have read on the forum from others who have used it. Anyone want to weigh in?

My girls have not started laying again yet and they are mostly through molting. My daughter came home from college in early december and was looking forward to her fresh eggs every morning and had not had one egg! She thinks they are holding out till she leaves! My silkies are still not laying either. Dang they take a long time start laying, Good thing they are cute.

Freezer weather for the week. Looks like lots of water hauling for me to the little coop. Have a good day!

Thanks, it's a bummer but it had to be done. DH kept telling me 'but she looks better, she's trying to 'talk''.. No, actually she was trying to breathe.

As for the Eprinex.. I use what you have heard - .5 for LF, .25 for smaller chickens/bantams.

thankfully I have a coop of pullets to supplement the laying until my others are done molting. So still getting 15-18 eggs/day. My leghorns (now umm.. 20 months old I think) still haven't molted and are still laying almost an egg a day each. Wowies.

I'll need one or 2 more this year as well. I may try a hoop coop if I can scrounge enough stuff to do it.

The temps are going down into the single digits this week so I'll keep everyone posted as to how they do. So far they seem pretty good. It's been cold enough to freeze the water.

Rancher

Rancher,
My hoop coop is covering Kale(that is doing nicely, we are eating some tonight!). But I am interested on how chickens would over winter in it. Keep us posted!

My leghorn is the only one that hasn't molted and is still laying about every other day. I am impressed!

Okay so I went out and wormed all my cheeps and the hens carried on like I was torturing them or something. For petes sakes, all I did was put some drops on the backs of their necks. Anyways, they all seem fine afterwards. A few do feel quite light and I am not sure if its because of the molt or if they have a wormload. They eat well (i keep track of their feed consumption) and get fresh veges and fruit so I am hoping the worming will help.

My silkies got the same treatment and were much more accomodating. Little man was getting a little upset but cut the nonsense when I told him to knock it off. I will say that for a rooster, he is pretty respectful of me and my tone of voice. Everyone is now soaking up what sun they can as it is cold out there.

Stay warm everyone!

Sorry, featherz, I'd offer some BO eggs, but my 11 ladies are only giving me an egg a day at most! I am getting 1 or 2 from the 3 silkies and 2 mixed banties and 3 to 5 eggs from the 9 EEs, 2 RIRs, and 2 BRs....33 hens that should be laying, and only 5 - 8 eggs a day. Come on longer days and warmer weather!!

We lost the little OE chick, but another chick hatched over night.

Off to feed store for more crumbles...At least my quail are laying well.

I'll take you up on a few BO eggs later, when it's warm again. Maybe when I'm bringing you a pile of freezer camp roos.

This poor chicken was from your eggs and she was beautiful! I suppose I could have tried tube feeding, but ...

Sorry to hear you lost your little OE chick. I have a few 'iffies' from my hatch, but they are rallying at the moment. My one eyed BR (probably ROO) is stomping around just fine with hobbles on, and the 'crunchy chick' I peeled out is also doing well. We'll see in a few days if there's any 'hidden' abnormalities. All the chicks are using the nipple waterer and eating feed. I love the tiny little 'aracauna' chicks (if that's what they turn out to be).
