NY chicken lover!!!!

bridgeport is too far for me, but you will see me at batavia on saturday! I am gonna go to see how these things work and check out all the peeps, but I am trying not to buy anything. I really hope they don't have something I have been looking for cause I don't have the room right now! But if my DH sees a BR roo, we may be in trouble

I'm leaning towards Batavia myself, mostly because I need a Drake, and they're likely to have the best selection! Now I need to decide if I have anything to sell... It sure would be nice to not have to get up at 3am to get in line...

I'll probably hit the Bridgeport one on the 29th if I still need anything...

Long Last Farm and westernnychickens!
This is a great site and you'll get a lot from it.
We went to the Bath auction. Just got some S/L wyandotte chicks. That's only because my Husband took my number, so I couldn't bid on anything for a while.

I wish I'd checked the forum before we left. I could have picked up some buff orp. chicks for Taj.

I really wanted some EEs, but I didn't see any chicks. The white crested black polish chicks I saw went for like $12 each. I don't want them that bad. If I'd had my way, I would have come home with: 2 pr. Aracanas, 1 pr. silver sebrights, 1pr. polish, 1 pr. salmon favorelles, 50 assorted chicks, and 4 peafowl. And the biggest barred rocks I have ever seen! I think my German Shepherd would have run away from those two!
Anybody that went, do you remember a short, red headed lady with a fuzzy tan jacket? That was me. I was the one who asked dumb questions and looked a little lost.
It was fun though. Going again in the fall.

Shoot, I have two EE chicks in the brooder now, I could have brought them for you... I killed the rest of the eggs, and they're all that made it out. Didn't seem worth it to bring just two chicks, and I didn't want to stick them with the Silkies, Cochins or the older Ameraucanas I brought... They're in with my Silkies.

How did ya get your Hubby to come??? Mine will NOT go to the auctions, he went to one last year and that was it!

If I had had someone with me, I wouldn't have missed the Buff drake I needed! I got there at 5:20 and was STILL number 34! I didn't get there early enough to have my stuff make it up before the break, darn it.

I was the woman in the Pink Crocs, LOL

The woman in the pink crocs!? Are you kidding me?! Wait, which one?

My hubby is the one who is dragging ME to the fall auction lol. The whole way home, he kept saying "That was cool. I didn't know the were things like this. That was too cool. We gotta go again"He's got the bug worse than me.He's drawing up all kinds of plans for new coops. Wants to make sure there's enough room for everybody. Especially the silkies. He wants silkies. There were some "white" ones that came up around 2pm. Now he's in love, again.

When was the break? I must have missed it when we went to get something to eat.
Too bad we can't make it to Batavia. I'd take Those EEs off your hands.
I knew I should have put a piece of tape on my shirt that said "BYC"

that's funny, my DH was just talking about possibly building another coop, after he said he would never build another one. Funny how we have become addicted to our hobby. It all started with "hey, we'll get come chickens to eat the bugs". now, he says if there is a BR roo at the auction we ARE getting it, even if I have to use his garage for chicken space. omg, hehehe

Hey everyone!!! Omani I am sooo happy that you had fun! I was so sad I couldn't go! I'll see you in the fall then, we will have to coordinate name tags so we know who to look for!
I have 6 EE's and other chicks coming in the mail monday yayyyyy!!!! I think I may stick them in the brooder with another one of my broody hens and see if she will raise them for me. I'm so sad.......no Buff orpington chicks this year...I knew I should have ordered a few with my shipment from Murray McMurray. I have four white silkies chicks that I got at TSC a while back, they are all doing great. I promised my aunt one, her silkie hatched out a few mixed colored ones so we are going to swap out one. I think she has a friend looking to get rid of some silkie chicks if you want me to ask her.

I went out to get eggs today and thought I heard a peep peep from the dog carrier where I had secluded my most serious broody and lo and behold she had hatched out a pure cuckoo maran egg for me,

she has 3 other eggs and 1 guinea egg under her that I'm hoping will hatch soon. I decided to move her inside tonight so I can see the progress she's making and keep an eye on the adorable chick! The other broodies are hard at work on their various eggs, I saved mostly the green, blue and dark brown maran eggs for them to hatch out....no clue what I'm going to do with all the chicks but after the fox and stray dog attacks I am down to about 20 hens in the coop now. I haven't seen the dogs at all, I am sure they are just waiting for me to let them free range again. Let me tell you, the birds are not happy at all being fenced in, neither are the guineas. Half figure out how to escape every morning then spend the rest of the day racing around the perimeter of the fence trying to figure out how to get back in.

My cornish crosses will be ready to butcher in a few short weeks, if I had more chicken tractors I would raise 10 continously all summer for the meat, but I already have poults waiting to go in the large tractor they are in right now. (Dear Auntie if you read this, please send some men folk my way i.e. a tall cousin with a tool belt)

Phil- the chicks you gave me are doing great, very beautiful! Hope to hear some of the guinea eggs hatch soon!

If anyone wants any fertile guinea eggs, Phil says mine are fertile that I gave him for his incubator!

anyone in the dansville area that needs a processor, I use Parker Processing, very cheap about 1.80 a bird I think? Soooo worth it in my opinion!

What time and where is the Batavia auction this saturday please???? If I can't go, get me some buff orp chicks and I will trade you anything you want for them!!

Someone on here said they got a blue cochin I think at the auction? I have a pair for trade that are a year old from Murray McMurray, they are Giant cochins, very calm. If I have to keep them fenced in though, they are getting very muddy here!

Sorry to ramble on, g'night all!

amy - buff orpington chicks arrived today at higbies farm supply in chili, ny
http://www.higbiefarmsupplies.com

I really want some buff orpington bantams!

my chicks are all doing great...out of my broody hen I got 2 roo's and 2 hens! One of them a purebred bantam PArtridge rock hen! I am excited to finally (at 6wks old) be able to tell what hen they came from and what sex they are. The roo's even make a predator alert noise the other day when I went in the coop. It sounded funny, but these are the 1st chicks I've raised!

still waiting for my BLR wyandotte to crow...any day now!

Hope my bantam cohins are 3 hens with 1 roo and not 3 roo's with 1 hen!
