Could someone tell me what a EE is? Is it a olive layer or just a colored egg? Thank you so much!

I think Batavia starts at 9??? I don't recall seeing any Buff Orps at the auction last weekend, but then again, alot of the chicks they just said "They're chicks" <sigh> I'm like, duh, what kind???

Was there someone else wearing Pink Crocs too?

Oh, I meant break as in when they break off to do equipment, LOL If you're selling at Bath or any of the other big auctions, ya gotta get your stuff up before the break! (Cuz half of your buyers go outside!) I did okay for not making the break though.

Can I Haz your hubby???

I dunno if I can talk mine into coming tomorrow or not...

I got the Blue Cochin hen, she's not "fabulous" but not bad... I got the names of a couple breeders so maybe I can find some better stuff later this fall. Someone in Syracuse had posted a Cochin hen for sale, I think it was in the auction section...

My EE lay a greenish blue egg, one lays a pinkish colored egg. I do a cross with an Ameraucana Roo over RIR hens, they're pretty hardy birds that lay well, and the eggs are like olive greenish. I'm considering putting him with Delawares for the winter, or Barred Rocks so I can do EE Sexlinks for spring next year.

I have White and Buff Silkies, and a Frizzled Silkie Roo over a couple hens too. I'm hoping to PU some nice stuff at the chickenstock next weekend, Like I NEED more Silkies??? I also want some Bantam Polish... I need like three more pens built, IDK if my husband will be on board with that or not...

The Barred Cross should give me Barred Males and Black Females. I *think* the one with the Delawares would give me white males and Buff/Red females. I'm not entirely sure if the second cross will work with the Roo I have or not, I need to pick up a "Test Hen" and see what happens. I haven't really given it a whole lot of thought, LOL Just had sooo many people want hens this spring I thought, hmmm, maybe I should work on an EE Sexlink... Just always seem to have too many projects going on here!

But I need to test hatch some first to be sure it works. Last year when I hatched some of my Barred Hens chicks I had Cuckoo Marans too, and I think I mixed them up. I haven't set any of the RIR or Barred Eggs this year, those I have been eating.

Right now he has a Barred Rock hen, two (there were three, IDK where one went) EE Partridge Colored hens, and three RIR hens. I got "Black" hens out of the Barred last year, but as I recall, they didn't stay black, I think there was some color leakage. The RIR cross are usually some sort of Partridge based color. My Roo is really pretty, I wish I could hatch out hens that looked just like him! ;p

I put my white and red EE roo over my pure BR hens and got 1 white barred roo, 1 black barred roo, one white hen and one black hen weird little mutts butt incredibly cute and sweet! The white hen got green legs from her daddies side. Their personalities couldn't be better if I tried. They all come up to me and want their bellies rubbed. Ofcourse their moms and dad are very nice birds.

The 2 hens are about 12 weeks old now. I'll let you know when they start laying what their egg color is. The roo should have thrown blue so they should throw green eggs, but we'll see!

anyone go to the batavia auction? I went to see what happens at that sort of thing and came home with a BR roo for my BR hens! Was not as cheap as I would have hoped for an auction roo, knowing that I paid $10 for my last purebred roo, but still ok. I thought no one would be biddin on a roo since I hear plenty of people give roos away. Paid $11 for him. Then spent the afternoon trying to arrange my chickens. built a new coop of sorts in the garage for the chicks and let the new roo and his new hens in their side of the coop. he just went in, he's been in the run all day...gotta go check where he roosted before the lights go out.

I feel like the poor roo had a bad day...he has a bruised face and some blood on his comb. I figured he got in a fight with another roo, but when we got him home we realized that the cage he was in was upside down! the opening on the bottom! now we wonder if the cage took a tumble and that's how he got bruised and battered. He is doing good and soooo handsome!!!

Lovin the new roo, but now I seriously need to get more run space. kinda freakin out about how many roos I have and worried that someone will get hurt. My broody hatched out 2 roos and 2 hens, not too bad. I still don't know about the bantam cochins...definatley 1 roo and 1 hen, but idk about the other 2.

Saw a guy at the auction that I have been to his house, he had an add on CL and I went to see what he had. When I got there, birds (of all sorts...peacocks, turkeys, quail, chickens) were crowded in filthy conditions. I asked how long he had been in the business (expecting something like 20yrs) and he said only a few. He had about 20yrs worth of poop all over everything is what I was thinking. He didn't want to sell any of the birds I wanted to buy, but had a bunch in some brooders. My point is, that it upset me to see this guy there buying all sorts of birds! I felt he didn't have adequate conditions for the birds he already has and he bought MANY more! He even bid on my roo. I was very reluctant to buy birds from him due to the conditions, almost wanted to save a few. ugh
to think, I cleaned my coop yesterday top to bottom and was disappointed this morning when it was all poo'ed on again. It looked so nice for a few hours

Still need to perfect the amount of shavings, too many get kicked out of the coop.

Also, was wishing I had a BYC sweatshirt (or maybe a jacket cause it was chilly) to see if anyone from this site was there.

Anyone has Bantam Mille Fleurs? my DH fell in love with a trio at the auction, even bid on them (behind my back), but didn't want to pay too much for birds that I didn't pre-approve. (wise DH) Even after I told him all I wanted was the BR roo cause if we got more than him I would need to use his garage as a coop. lol, he is willing to sacrifice his garage (he built it by hand, by himself). and even funnier... we moved the chicks to the garage and he is building a run for them tomorrow. I love my DH, best ever. but he is an enabler, lol.

enough rambling, hope y'all enjoy the weekend and our partly sunny skies!
