NY chicken lover!!!!

This is my first time and I bought a 50# bag on line. $43 total.
Have to find the site again.
I toss a little in the feed every once in awhile maybe once a month I guess.
I also dust the nest boxes and throw some in the litter so when they dust them selves. Litter stays relatively dry, so it can't hurt right?
I also rub some on them at night when they are roosting and easy to catch. Not often.
I was thinking of making a dusting (sand) box for in the run under cover so it stays dry. Filled with sand w/ some DE tossed in. Can't hurt right?

I would like to give it a try...can't hurt and you have seen that it helps...between my chickens, pugs and kids I seem to be broke all the time! Thanks for your help.

I just bought a small (4.4 lb.) bag at CountryMax for $9.99. It was in the garden section, it's very popular for keeping bugs off plants, too. I was told they ussually have in in larger bags but I can't remember what the price was.

***NY coops***

So I've been wondering how you all home your chickens because of the NY weather. I've got it in my head that I can't have a short (low) coop & run because of the snow potential. How about posting pictures of your coops? We've been pretty lucky in the past few years with snow-fall amounts ,but here.....you never know.

St Gabriels? Its says pet safe but doesn't say "food grade". I didn't want to take the chance. Not to mention the cost. $2.27 a pound as opposed to .86 a pound to order it. That includes shipping. You'd be saving $1.41 a pound. It would take 11.5 (approx) bags to equal ordering it. That's appox. $113.00 not including tax. You'd be saving over $70 to order it. What could you do with that $70?

Go to "Countryside Natural Products".

I intend to repackage the 50#'s into managable size but putting it in the plastic cat litter containers. I wash them out good and let them dry. This way I can store it for a long time. I suggest putting a piece of wax paper over the opening to create a seal. Should last the small holder a long time.

Always the best

Nope. I forget the brandname but it definately said food grade. I just wanted to try it out and will order it from Countryside Natural Products next time. Thanks for the tip! I do think you could repackage it and sell it. I couldn't find it anywhere in the fall when I first read about it.

I'm trying to figure out how to post pics on this site so I can share some of my coop this past winter.
