NY chicken lover!!!!

This is off topic..kinda..but I separated my silver laced wyandotte crew and put them in their own hoop house. I know I just put them in there Sunday night, but I've got NO eggs yet!! How long do you think it will be before they get used to their new digs and start producing? I've four of them in there, plus the roo and I figure..well, hope..to get at least 2-3 eggs a day and have enough to fill at least half a bator within a week or so...

Welcome back! and thank you! I have Olive eggers and marans and Coro/light sussex hatching, let me know if you are interested..
Anyone close to watertown? I am in the military and just came back from deployment. I am looking to start a small flock with my children. I am have a little troble finding chicks, other than the farm supply. I would like some BO's, sussex, RIW, silkies, or any breeds that are good with children. thanks

My Incubators are in my basement where the temperature is between 65-68 during the entire hatch. The Humidity was kept at 35% and the Hova Bator was set at 100.5 (Therm reads 99.0) All eggs develop great Turner and Fan in that unit. I switch them over to the LG on Day 18, and the Temperature seems fine until the chicks start hatching, then it is all over the place. Humididty spikes which I expect, but the temp going up 6 degrees? Of note, my BLRW eggs seem to be the ones that are not hatching (i think 1 out of 6) all other breeds are 18 for 19, so maybe I need to look more at that pen and figure out what is different with them besides them laying on the floor.

I have 2 LG's both with turners and fans, use reptile hygrometers and thermometers..separately. I had troubles until I finally broke down and put them in my unused spare bedroom and turned on a space heater and pulled down the shades. I just had a hatch that was nearly 95 percent...would've been more, but I think I had some duck eggs in there...unknown to me and to the person who gave me the eggs as he lets all his poultry run together. I just wanted the eggs for a test hatch so I could make sure I had a better hatching environment...seemed to work! I have rir and wyandotte eggs I ordered and all but a few clears are developing nicely...I'm soo excited and so happy to have figured out a way to make these bators work. I daresay however, I would've had the same problems no matter which bator I was using. Maybe I'm crazy, but I now believe you've got to have the right spot...or if you don't then do like you've done and build the box to help it out!!

I am truely sorry for your lost. Last fall my three younger kids and my DH traveled downstate and my children were crying when they saw the swingsets and kiddie pools up in the trees and homes turned over. I told them what had happened and it touched base with them..the 3 yr old was just over whelmed at the swings in the trees..the 7 and 9 yr olds just couldn't imagine the flood waters so high. Our home flooded 2 yrs ago twice in a 24 hr time frame and the kids were effected by it, but to see the damage and heartache was much more then we had... I hope to go down to Wapperings Falls soon...I will be in touch and if I have something you would like I will bring it along... Hugs to you and yours!
Hi everyone!! I haven't posted on this thread in quite a bit!! Not sure if any of you saw my pictures from Hurricane Irene, but we lost everything. Every structure on our property was actually swept away by the water. None of our belongings survived, much less our chickens. :( A huge bummer since above all, I love my chickens like they were my kids, and second because they had only been in there new coop a few months, and most were just getting old enough to lay. So here I am, 6 months later, in a new home, with a new chicken coop under construction. I ordered chicks a few weeks ago because I simply couldn't wait anymore, and having them here just makes me happy! After talking with Cass (she bought some silkies off me last spring), she suggested I post here and see if anyone is interested in the "extra" chicks that I cannot keep from my order, and if anyone has any hens that are closeby, at a decent price.

The extras from my order are:
8 Partridge silkies
3 Light Brahmas
---They are all bantam straight run, and 3 weeks old today. I would be happy with $3 each, or $30 for all 11 of them.

As far as hens, I am not picky at all. I just like to keep a nice colorful flock. Would love a polish or 2, since my kids just love the way they look.

Anyway, I am in Northern Schoharie County, so if anyone is interested in my chicks, or has any hens for sale, please PM me. :)

I was also wondering, was anyone else on here affected by the Hurricane??

SUSSEX! Light/coro! I have some!!!!

So I am breaking down and buying a dozen Black copper marans to hatch ( and I think I want sussex eggs if I can find some to hatch) and while I am at it I think I will hatch eastern wild turkeys again this year... MY dh really is going to disown me I think.

I am also buying a plucker cause I have 10 to cull (7 roos and 3 older hens) and want to start doing our own meat birds soon, along with processing our own turkeys.

Went out to feed the goats / sheep this morning and one of the Cayugas was sitting where I have been finding the eggs lately. I am going to let her sit and see how this goes. Don't really know how broody they are, but fingers crossed!

Did you get her!?

Just talked to the gentelman in MN that is shipping me a Temminck's Tragopan hen - she is going out today, overnight mail! OM Goodness I am so excited!
