NY chicken lover!!!!

I had to open the bator and empty out the chicks. 24 hatched so far. 1 died, 1 was crippled. 2 are still in the bator. 20 in the brooder so far. Bator back closed up. 9 eggs left. See what happens.

it is 95 in the center of the brooder. I moved the thermometer to the edge.

I am have a little troble finding chicks, other than the farm supply. I would like some BO's, sussex, RIW, silkies, or any breeds that are good with children. thanks

Did you get her!?

She arrived this morning at 6:30 am - 15 hours AFTER the PO's "guaranteed" arrival time. I have a call in to customer service. She is alive, time matters!

I just came back in after rounding up my beagle. She slipped her collar and took off after a rabbit. I'm thanking my lucky stars I got her before she found out the chickens were free ranging down by the barn. She scared me because she chased the rabbit over to my neighbors house and their house is right next to the road.
On to happy thoughts. I just put 7 eggs under a broody silkie.

Ladies and Gentlemen:
I need some experienced advice. In order to have the chicks hatch in the classroom somewhere between Tues and Thurs of next week (Day 19-21) we planned accordingly. Problem is that Day 18 falls on a Sunday. School is closed up. No janitors around and teachers don't have keys to the building.
What do you suggest? That I stop the egg turning on Friday afternoon the 16th Day or wait till early in the AM on Day 19? I could camp out in the building but I promised to babysit for 3 children under 4 so the parents could go somewhere with friends for an overnight trip. Fri night to Sat afternoon. I know...crazy...
Let me know what you wise "chicken" sages think.

Hatching is not an exact science and life must go on. I hatched eggs in a classroom situation and FORGOT to go over and turn them the second weekend....totally forgot for 2 whole days....11 of 12 still hatched. (Ok, one was stuck in it's shell and I helped, cuz the kids were watching, but it lived and didn't seem to suffer any ill effects from my "help")

I say, turn them the last minute before you leave for the weekend, add extra water/wet sponge...turn them gently the first thing Monday morning and then "lock them down"....don't turn again...oh and add more water/wet sponges when you turn them Monday AM.

What do the rest of you advise?

I'm good with your advise. I've seen my broody's break all kinds of "hatching rules". Turning on day 19, getting off the nest when the 1st one just pipped (like they knew it was their last meal for 3 days...lol) teaching the older chicks to eat when one is zipping, etc. So I say what you say!
