NY chicken lover!!!!

Hi everyone!
I'm on the Eastern side of Wayne county up next to the lake. It's so nice to see other upstate NY'ers here!
I have 22 girls- 5 GLW, 5 Barred Rocks, 6 New Hampshire Reds, and 6 Buff Orpingtons, and 9 Cornish X. I love my girls and just tolerate the Cornish, although hubby loves them!
Hubby- though he has 0 construction skills at all built the coop for the girls, nice and big, as predator proof as we could make it, and by
winter will have insulation on the north and west sides.
We have been buying Dumor starter feed from Tractor Supply, but we found a local Amish run supply store out here, that has a better price on a different brand.
I am so new at chickens though I have no idea what to look for in feeds. I will have to go take a look at it myself and come back and post, can you all help me by letting me know if it's good or bad?!!
Looking forward to getting to know you all!

Well it's nice to get to know you. Welcome to the insanity. Stay in touch and you'll learn alot. Mostly alot of good stuff and some not so good stuff. One good thing is we like pics, lots of em. If your looking for something in the way of chicks, chickens ask here first. There are alot of people in NYS who have lots of chickens.

Lots of nice people here ready to help.

All the best

That is good to know, but for me the extra money is worth it cuz they put it right in my garage, so no lifting. I wish it came in smaller bags but glad I could get it just the same.

Welcome lakeontariochicks!!!!
I agree...a lot of extremely nice ,very knowledgeable people on here!!! Great information and a way to meet and possibly network. I didn't realize how many upstate NY'ers kept chickens, ducks and all manner of poultry!!! I really love this thread...and I think you will too!!
Please post pics if you have any you want to share....I greatly enjoy viewing them!!! Again, welcome!!!!

Hey Everyone!!!!
As you probably know, today was the NE Chickenstock in Tivoli, PA. I'm so bummed that I couldn't go!!! I have chicks hatching this weekend....there's no way I'd leave them unattended. several people from this thread attended.....in fact, Jerseygirl1 is bringing back a pair of bantam Lavender Cochins and a beautiful OE rooster that needed a home.......as if I NEED more chickens(smile).......but I WANT them. It's probably a good thing I was unable to go this year....I probably would have bought one of EVERYTHING. I do plan on attending the Chickenstock next year for sure!!! Maybe one day all us NY'ers could get together and do something similar...........

I met so many people that I have been chatting with on BYC for well over a year. There were a lot of nice looking birds and I sold a pair of teenagers and lots of chicks. I picked up a trio of midget whites from Nava and won some chicken treats in one of the many raffles. I can't wait to go again....maybe some day we'll get one together. Ohh and TIME Magazine was there taking a TON of pictures! Fun!
