NY chicken lover!!!!

You are NOT going to believe this.... I have a PIP in one of eggs in my $18 incubator....one of the eggs that the cat knocked out of the 'bator and was on the floor for I don't know how long at about day 10. I put them back in when I found them and let them go for another 11 days. Well, it's day 22 and I have a PIP!!!! I don't know if the chick is gonna make it....it's always a cr*p shoot when it comes to hatching eggs.

I am going to have a hard time sleeping tonight....I Soooo hope I have a chick by morning. Would be even better if the second egg hatched so I am not raising a lone chick.

Night to all who can sleep. Gotta go bring a chick in from the brooder to cheep at the egg and encourage it.

WOW! Good Luck! I hope it went well!

GE now makes 90 watt bulbs. 100 watt incandecent bulbs are no longer legal to sell in the USA...I am SURE that the government is going to ban 90 watt bulbs too....and probably soon....so if you weren't able to stock pile 100 watt bulbs for heating small areas, you might want to get some 90 watt bulbs to have around.

Just thought I'd say hi, from Ithaca. First post on this thread.
Tomorrow is chick delivery day!

Got the stock tank pulled in the house since it will be way to cold and dark in the garage. Going to try keeping it in the kitchen next to the sliding glass door. It is north facing, but would get the most daylight in the house other than the south facing bay window that the cats like to sit in. Feed and waterers all washed up, ready to fill in the morning. Now off to bed after I switch the laundry around..

Maybe I will go next week also, bring a roo with me. Don't know if I will stay tho, 9PM is pretty late for me. ;)

So I did end up going to the auction. Hens sold for around $9 a piece. didn't stay long enough to watch the cockerels though. i also witnessed somebody (not the owner) milk a goat that was getting rady to give birth. The guy did it for almost 5 mnutes.

And java Girl, I know i said i wasn't going but i didn't have to sell anything. i still have the chicks you want.

Sumatra's don't seem to care too much about heat. They do grow fast don't they!
Update: (Do I sound like a new mom or what?)

The second egg is cheeping and has a crack in it. It started to crack after I took the hatched chick out. Beleive me there isn't enough room in this thing for 2 chick and 2 empty shells...the first out had to get out of the way for the second to think about hatching.

I am using my ecoglow with the Sumatras....they aren't overly bright, I have to push them under it every night or they huddle up in a corner...but during the day they run in and out of it like it is a chicky playground. Oh, and OVER it , now they are big enough to jump that high.

I wish I was better about taking pictures, but I am just not good with camera, much less the technology to post it online.

go to an autoparts store and buy "rough service" bulbs that mechanics use. It is a loophole in that utterly stupid law.
