Dh just left his parent's house to thaw their pipes. They haven't had water in 5 days!

I do not believe Australorps come in any other colors. Just the solid black. I personally like the color (the roos are beautiful in the sun!), but I don't care too much about coloring. I got them because they are supposed to be excellent layers. So far, so good, but they are very small eggs right now. They all seem to have nice personalities and are wintering over well.

Is there going to be a get together/picnic this summer ??

I do hope so. Not sure where though. I should start saving for a motel or hotel room for at least an over night.

The three I had were nice birds all hens and friendly too. Jumped right up on my knee to get at the bread in my hand.

Morning all! Its 10 this am and a light dusting of snow overnight. Went out to let everyone out and man, did I get an earfull from all the cheeps! Apparently I am responsable for the evil white stuff on the ground and this is unacceptable and we dont like our dainty feet touching any part of the evil white stuff. My ears are still ringing. I called them a bunch of sissy chickens and told them that other chickens go out in the white stuff so suck it up and be chickens, for petes sakes! Bunch of spoiled rotten chickens is what they are. I blame dh. He caters to them (though he would deny it with his dying breath). Anyways, they are stuck with me now as he is away for the week. Chicken momma is no pushover.

Now this had me "LOL" !!

So funny!

I can just picture (and hear) the disgruntled throngs:

Does pink mean a hen ... blue a roo? THAT would make sexing a whole lot easier!

Maybe the sun reflects more off the snow for them .
Example :They were on my deck , I was on the ground with treats ..they looked at the shoveled path , Then at me , then at the path & then me ..then they flew straight off the deck over the snow to me ..It was like they could nt see the path ..
Rancher puts sand in the shoveled areas
I shovel paths for my chickens down to the grass ...they see the grass they will peck at it .( even if it is frozen ) it temps them to come out .

Only $2000? Can you imagine cracking an egg and getting that color yoke? Don't know if i could eat it...fun though!!

yes it would but unfortunately they don't lay that way. Just pink or lighter pink.


Gotta ask. Is anyone hatching any new breeds? Any one buying eggs from away to hatch?

I candled some eggs today and tossed a few. I wasn't surprised. I think I just held them to long. I marked them that were sitting in the laundry room the longest. It's very cool in there what with the wind and the dryer vent.

Anyone here got any advice on how to insure cold air not blowing in that thing?

This is the kind of stuff I would never imagine or even think about until I see someone talking about it here. Thanks, 'cause it gives me a good idea of what to expect when I've got my own flock complaining during winter's worst! Gotta shovel some paths with some definition!
