Sorry, Rancher...I am very late in posting some pictures of the new coop construction.
Here are a few photo's.
Things were slow to start, but are now moving along a little faster. This weather has been a downer and held things up... at the least, it makes working outside uncomfortable. Saturday was terrific, though! My younger son, Shane, has been great -- working alongside his dad for hours. His enthusiasm is contagious, and as mentioned, he and I shingled half the coop ourselves Saturday afternoon. Hubby did the other side (in much less time, I might add)!
Windows are framed, but not completely cut in to the wall panel. There will be nice lighting and ventilation, with two large windows. Permanent ventilation has also been cut into the roof in the form of a vent strip.
In the last picture, on the top right side of the structure, that raised section is where a small storage building will be built on to the chickens' living area. The nesting boxes will be accessible for egg gathering from the shared wall between the storage section and coop. I will have a man door into the coop from this area. The girls' coop had first priority, but we will get started on the storage unit soon. It will be quite small (storage section), and will hopefully move along quickly with (anticipated, prayed for!) better weather.
Hubby says the completely enclosed pen will be the bigger challenge from a design & construction perspective. I know he's up for the job though, as he always does great work!
