NY chicken lover!!!!

HELP!!!!

I'm posting this in the hatching section as well but I have a broody hen who sat on 4 eggs for 21 days. Today I checked on her and she moved boxes and 4 of the eggs she was sitting on are gone. There was an egg in the box she was in and it had a pip and there was peeping coming from it! What do I do?!?

My guess is the eggs were bad or something ate them. I have many that I just assume are good and they're not. If I understand you right and you have an egg pipping I would put it under her in the new box.

Coop is finished and time for chicks to move out of cellar. Had chicks outside for a few hours and then moved them to new coop. Just a few minutes to get used to the newness and they were enjoying having so much more space. Chicks are 5 weeks and 4 days old.

wonderful set up. I am jealous, your birds use the roosts....mine use the rafters. The shampoo bill is breaking my budget.

Don't ya know, that's why they have grocery bags??? A shower cap would work well too.

I forgot to mention earlier...
My little 6.5 week old rooster (tetra tint) crowed for the first time this morning. I have to say, it was the most masculine little crow come from a chick yet! He's an adorable little roo.

Don't own a shower cap, but I could use a grocery bag. (My hair is down to my waist, so a shower cap might not work anyway)

Really, they don't get my head that often, but the back of my jacket? I think my favorite jacket is just about worn out being washed so much. (This is where you tell me to find a coat I don't care about and only wear that one into the coop. Well, I could do that, but then what would I have to complain about?

I will be working on trying to get the doors on my chicken coop/shed tomorrow. I really want to get the chicks out there soon. I have the light pretty high up now and the chickens don't hang around it very much. They are in the basement so it's cooler than normal in the areas not heated by the lamp.

My recent fix for waterers? Taking the bottoms off, turning the white "bucket" upside down, placing some big rocks in it and topping it off with water! Rocks keep it from tipping over, keeps the chicks from drowning, and it stays free of shavings! Best thing I've done yet with these chickens!!!!

TOB - Beautiful!!! You need any chicken wire for windows? I have a whole roll sitting in my shed!

Here's a pic of the aliens dust bathing in the food while Charlie watches over and plays "Mother Hen", you can see the waterer on the other side of the coop door.

Here is my solution to stopping the stuff getting in the water / food problem with feeders .
I have a couple of extra ceramic pots ..around .I did more House plants & flower gardening before I had chickens
The ceramic pot is heavy & doesnt tip over easily ... I set the waterer on top of that ...mine fit perfectly inside & raise it up just enough to keep it pretty clean .
Now I just have chicken food drool in the water ..problem ..LOL

Baby looking at ya " What cha Doing ? "

Quote: So Cool ! Congratulations Farmer ! I was going to ask how did you do that ...
Oh I was going to tease you for being such a softy ...
I wont take a baby away from its mother ! Good for You ! Too many chicks have no mother !
