Ok those with the hoop coop set ups how often to you have to replace the tarps? Do you just have enclosed area for nest boxes mainly or a roosting area in there? I like the idea of them I just thought would be too cold or have to replace tarps every wind storm.

I use " 5 gallon bucket" nest boxes on the floor or you can hang them on the ends. You can ad another tarp on top of the old one if you think you need too. Keep in in the shade and the sun won't wear it out so fast. I suggest buying a "heavy duty" tarp too.

My largest has two doors from and back. The back door was not covered this year. The tarp hung down and what held in place by and old door leaning again the coop.

Back: the new tarp is bigger and hangs down much father. Last year I stapled plastic over it, but that was a bit to much. If I didn't have the tarp I'd use fleece which can breathe.






The fleece is only covering the door and one side. The other side is open hardware cloth. That's the side with the roost.

If I bring some chicks to the Nassau tailgate tomorrow (they are 2 weeks old) how do I deal with heat problem?
I'm thinking ill bring my patridge rocks, a couple of americaunas, my egyptian fayoumi, and some of my buff orp/red comet mixes... and maybe some speckled sussex and australorpes depending on how I'm feeling. Do you know if we have to sell at the 6 chick minimum?

I recently mentioned a propane fueled space heater. Might be worth a go? Or else a power inverter and your car's cigarette lighter outlet, then plug your lamp in like usual. Your birds sound very pretty, my husband will be happy I can't go.

If I came and asked for one partridge rock and one americauna I definitely would not turn you in for breaking the law. Of course, I have five ducklings of the same age they would be hanging out with when they got home. The intent of this law is obviously for the welfare of the animals. It probably comes down to knowing your buyer.
I have never been, it would probably be wise to talk to the event organizers. Since they had to get the permissions to host the event, they will know what all they promised to, as well as what is customary to be seen transpiring at such a fest.

The six-bird minimum laws don't apply at the tailgate sales, as they're private transactions. You can sell one chick or a dozen.

I'll probably end up going to both sales, especially as my husband is working on a side job over the weekend. I will not look at goat kids... I will not buy anything... I will not buy anything... I will not buy anything...

Broome County Farm Bureau is having the annual consignment auction tonight and Saturday at the fairgrounds in Whitney Point. Mostly all agriculture related items. There was at least 3 or 4 of those "Amish" built sheds, decent sized ones. If anyone is interested, check out www.manasseauctions.com for details. The auction is an all day affair, will get done around 7 or 8 at night most years, but they have the sheds in different spots, so don't have to wait all night to see them sell.

Evening all! Had the babies out again today. Littles get really tired out in all that fresh air and sunshine! My silkie boys had a spat so I had to lock them up again. Of course it was the girls who started it by have a spat themselves. I let the terrorists out and they were happily rearranging the woods again.
