thinking open face chicken sandwich's smothered in gravychicken salad? soup?
That is a relief!
I'm pretty sure mine is a raven rather than a crow. Fantail instead of wedge tail, and a more throaty low call instead of the higher pitched "caw caw" of a crow. Also my black bird is HUGE.
Either way, I'm happy that both of us have a black bird that chases hawks away, and I am so glad to know they don't bother the chickens. Thank you!

As he is now the top bird ...he thinks its his place now .LOL Show him you are the top bird ...Every once in a while challenge him ...Do a run at him ! Put him in his place .
Stare him down with stink Eye ! Dont let him mount a hen in front of you ...Etc
I tried this once with a really nasty roo that I had who moved in uninvited (at that time all my chickens were uninvited), but he had been allowed to behave that way for too long and eventually I had to give him away to change his environment. Apparently in his new home he's very docile. Point being, nip that in the bud! Spurs hurt! I'm not sure why my current roosters are so well behaved. I raised them all from chicks, and I never have to do any of this stuff. They're both very sweet, and in the right mood will climb into my lap to be petted. I don't knock them off hens when they mate in front of me, I don't keep them back from food, I don't pick them up if they're not feeling like it...and neither one has so much as looked at me funny. They're both great with children too. I think that they just know that they're chickens, and we're humans, and that's that, so there's no need to treat us as other roosters or as predators. As he is now the top bird ...he thinks its his place now .LOL Show him you are the top bird ...Every once in a while challenge him ...Do a run at him ! We have ravens too, and they don't bother the chickens, but they will get right in the run if they can and walk around with them, which I hate because sometimes the chickens get lice from them and I have to do a round of dusting, and they will eat chicken feed if they can get to it. They don't hurt my birds, though, and hawks and owls really do hate them. Like TOB said, though, they're very intelligent. So far I haven't lost any chicks to them, but at one point they did figure out how to get in the coop, and they'd just stroll right in and steal my eggs. That is a relief! I have three Easter Eggers. They really do come in lots of colors. This is Plum, a chick I got from featherz for one of my broodies last year:
Pretty Close!?!?!![]()
