NY chicken lover!!!!

I made a big feeder out of a 5gl pail and an old rubber maid drawer!

First one to figure out the ramp, at least half way.

Me thinks this Cochin is a Roo.

also this BR, and my other two BRs :-/

And I love the colors on this EE.

and another pretty colored EE with my BR's behind.
Nice coop mods and pretty birds! I really like that pastel-y last EE.
I use them on my hens with no problem. I just keep an eye on them to make sure they don't get tight.

And I can't remember who said they needed to build nesting boxes? Do you have cats or know someone who does? Snag the empty containers the litter comes in. I used them for the hoop coop and they are great !

Nifty idea!
Well, tomorrow is a VERY exciting day...after a long winter and spring of planning, learning and waiting, our new girls from Rancher are coming home!

I'm a little anxious about how they'll do (and how I'll do, too!), but can't wait.
The pen has a way to go, but the coop is ready and waiting.

Wish me luck! Thanks!

Yay! Good luck!
my chickens all survived their first night outside!

yay!!
Hurray!! And YOU survived too! Haha, I am sure my chicks' first night outside was worse for ME than for my chicks.

Thats very exciting good luck!!Though you don't really need luck...you seem VERY prepared. Enjoy them!

Oh yes, and turns out it was MY grain pail! She ate about 10lbs of grain in one sitting. She also then went down the hall and ate a lot of hay.
Ouch, maybe your MIL should buy you a bag of grain to make up for it

I want another horse so bad but then I'm reminded of all the work...not to mention having to find somewhere to board it.

Congrats to you TOB on your flock coming home!

Breella glad the chickies did well, and the horse is ok.

I am kind excited too,

one of my BCM hens was just in the coop singing the egg song! And "her" roo stood outside the door singing right along with her (how I heard it from the house actually :D) This is the first time I've heard it out of any of them and I am anxiously looking forward to their first egg.

There wasn't one there when I looked, but she had made a little nest in the shavings... Time to get a nest box in there! Woop Woop!

Sorry for all the emots (I'm just a little excited lol)

What is a good height for the boxes? I just put my first one up today and I think it's about 3ft off the ground... (I'm planning on putting more nest boxes under it.)

also, I may try my hand at making an incubator...

I have boxes like that three. They can get up there but all want to lay in the highest box. All level works best for me. Like this exterior box. It's outside the coop but inside the covered run. There are three nests in it and it still is not enough. I have six in another coop but they all want to lay in the same boxes.

TOB was here and left with 2 CR, 1 Del and 1 BM hen. If I'd had more pullets I would have given her more though she did pay for them and was really nice. If she comes to our picnic (if there is one) you will like her.

She's expecting to have 8 total but that won't happen as she's getting at least two EE's or another Del AND two EE's. Even if I have to drive to her place and stick them in the coop.

That is really nice. I've been trying to figure out how to do something like that cuz when a hen goes broody the others have no where to lay. I just had to toss a bunch from under a hen cuz one got smashed.

I will be building a broody coop.

Oh and a Del hen hatched out another EE chick. So while TOB took four, I'm only down three.
