NY chicken lover!!!!

Just curious as to how many people usually make it to the picnic?? I've got a big screened in pavilion with a projector screen for a slide show, two patio heaters and a bit of property for a bonfire and parking. What would it entail if I were to break it to my Hubby I was interested in hosting!?!?!

May need to put a tip jar out to pay for a porta potty tho!?! We're on a well....and septic~ Ha

Well now last year, DW and I brought the burgers. We also had a chinese auction type thing and the money went to the host and hostess. At least I think that's how that worked. Other folks brought other food too.

We will need some shade for folks who bring chicks or chickens for the auction too and water for the birds. I will bring a bingo game too. Oh and we brought our own chairs.

Pick the right day and it should be fun.

As I was busting my butt this weekend cleaning the yard and tackling some more of the unkempt areas, I was thinking of hosting too. Got a long ways to go before everything is the way I want it to be. I'm sure hubby would still say no, although he enjoys the chickens too.
My darn chickens have been crossing the road. Why? Aparantly there are better bugs on the other side. Dopey birds, I dont worry about them getting hit as much as potential car damage they may cause.

It's not just about chickens. It's a chance to meet everyone face to face. Mostly what we need is tables and a bathroom. Everyone brings the food and stuff.
We can even bring DW's folding table and 4 chairs. Ask Tab we brought more than enough burgers.

DW isn't into chickens but she loves me and supports my hobby. I'll bet I can get her to make two Lemonade Pies too.

Evening all!
Hope everyone had a marvelous Monday!

I've been getting a kick out of my birds of late. Now that the BRs are with the Orps they seem to be learning a lot about the ins and outs of the property. My lavender Orp is definitely the queen bee around here. She hangs out on the front porch with me and the dog. She's taught the others that the minute a bird comes to the bird feeder in the front yard to get over there ASAP for seeds that have dropped! She's definitely the smartest of the group. Think I'm going to give the silkies some free range time tomorrow. I'll let them out when I get done with work at 11, let them venture out and see what's out there. Hopefully Duncan will let them without going after them all day long.

Still trying to distinguish my silkie chicks to see if any are showing signs of hens or roos. I took a closer look at them today and it seems as though one might be growing a comb, but still to early to tell. If I had the lens for camera I need to take good close up pics I would be able to show you what I'm talking about. (Maybe ill get one for Mother's Day) So time will tell...more waiting until them...

Hi Everyone!

THANKS to all for the nice words on the first arrivals of my flock today!

A special thanks to Rancher for a visit that was both pleasant and informative. I got a nice tour of his coops and you can see how happy and healthy his birds are. One or two of them tagged along with us, and they are all beautiful. (I couldn't believe the sizes of Mario and Luigi!) Even the roos were gentlemen, and I got a little social time with one of the Lavender Orps. Anyway, from the beginning, Rancher has always been patient and helpful with the hundreds of questions I've thrown out there. He's a "good egg!"

My new girls are in their new coop for their first night here! I am a little nervous about the temps dipping into the 40's tonight, as this is their first night out of Rancher's house. Hoping they stay cozy enough. I will probably wake up constantly and worry!

I'm looking forward to spending more time with them tomorrow and will try to share some pics then. They are sweet!

Long day. Good night everyone!

Blondie STILL can't decide where she wants to nest. This morning early she changed boxes AGAIN. I had to throw away 10 eggs that she had been on. I may just throw down a few plastic boxes on the floor at this point!
I have a buyer already for my tetra tints. She'll probably take all 18. I'd love to keep them but just don't have the room.
I peeked out the window of our room to check on the coop and there was a possum wandering around. Yes, I have a million candle power light to check on the flock. Neighbors must think I'm crazy. It comes in handy. Dh takes credit for that Christmas gift.
