I hope the weather is good this weekend, I really need to get the platforms for my coop finished so I can start on the outdoor run.

I have no experience but if you hatch it you may have a very lonely chick on your hands. I guess you could be the other chick and carry it around and play with it all the time. Me I would stop but that's mainly because I work second shift and would have to have wife/kids with it then and in the morning when I sleep. So dont have time for it. But before they changed the law people bought 1 chick at tsc and i'm sure some lived just fine and happy until they wasn't cute and people dropped them off on side of road. Sorry I know not much help just my 2 cents on it though.

You have alot of Roosters & hens ..do you let them all free range at the same time ? ? or not at all ?
Reason I ask is this ...My two white birds they are approx 2 months 3 weeks old ..
I suspect they are a boy & girl ..if I wanted them to stay a pair ..would they have to have their own coop & run ?
I hate to separate them as they have been together all their life ...or eat him if it is a roo .

If you introduce a young roo to the flock he seems to be accepted. At least that's my experience. Jackson was not raised with Jack but I put him in the coop with the flock one night. Last night I had to catch him and put him in on the roost and this am had to catch him and take him out. No one in the flock seems to bother him.

Now when Jack went to the back yard, he beat up my BR roo. They seem to stay clear of each other after that.

I have two Orps and one CR roo all in the same coop and they get in each others faces now and then but no blood is drawn. My Lav Amer roo was in there and will go back in with them at night if they are all out in the yard.

Jackson had been out in the yard with all the EE's and the lav roo for a few days, but going back into his room (my gym) at night. I had to move him out cuz he roosted on my machine and was leaving a pile.

Anyhow that's my experience. Introduce a roo when he is young and they seem to be fine with him.

Morning all. Slept with the fan on all night just so I could stay cool. The humidity is really bothering me. I was reading up on honey and cinnamon as helpful for all kinds of things. Thinking of trying the tea, which is really just hot water, 2 tablespoons of honey and a teaspoon of cinnamon. Its supposed to help arthritis.

Up early to treat the divas before releasing them. Mean Marge was in the coop early roosting, which is not like her. I pulled her down and gave her a good look over. Found a few mites on her. I think the heat was getting to her as well. Anyways, I hit everyone with ivermectin this morning and powdered all butts and tail feathers. I only saw evidence on Mean Marge and Gladys. I think they might have picked them up from freeranging. I just did a big cleanout on their coop and commited chemical warfare with permethryn spray on it to prevent any outbreaks. I had one this fall if you remember and really sprayed the crap out of the coop then, inside and out and every little opening. Almost killed me but I didnt want to have to deal with them again. The kicker is I have the tots in the coop now as well so I powdered their little butts lightly and mixed some powder in the litter as a preventative. Better safe than sorry. Looks like I have to catch Betty and treat her for vent gleet. She is the only one who gets it and has to be treated for it. Not sure why.

As for Mean Marge and Gladys, you must dust that coop with DE liberally. It helps keep things dry. DE is good for slugs and snails but not puppy dog tails. Any soft bodied creature.

Well now I don't have anything newborn at the moment, but I had to pull BR hens out of the nest box as there appeared to be a three headed hen in the box.

Honestly I need a broody hospital coop.

I gave the RIR three eggs I hope are Buckwheat my frizzle hen, leaving the Orp hen with the ones she stole from the RIR.

I don't expect anymore from the BM's but they refuse to get up offa that thing. I hate to give them fresh eggs. I had a nightmare that I had hens who were super skinny from sitting on eggs too long.

I really need to find more to occupy my time. Lord have mercy,

That's exactly how they are. When the Rouens were young'uns last year, one or two would try flying when first let out, end up halfway down the yard, then freak out and race back to the rest of the group. Now they just mosey around and hang out together - they don't even attempt flight anymore. The Khaki Campbells stick together like glue no matter where they are. They can't even get off the ground, so when I first let them out they run around like mad flapping their wings, and then calm down, eat grass, and hang by the pool. They all go back to the run at night on their own, which is extremely handy.

The biggest KC hen is claiming the sole drake for her own - she's following him around today bobbing her head with the "he's mine, ladies - back off" vocalization. It cracks me up!

Poolside life is great! All they need is a cabana boy serving fruity umbrella drinks.

Our ducks have the same pool!
Mine do the same thing, they tend to stay fairly near their pool and coop and they put themselves in at night.

Yesterday I got a good video of the tornado cloud that was trying hard to form over DeWitt.
