NY chicken lover!!!!

what kind of duck eggs Cass? Musqovies take 35 days
omg I am soooo glad I am complained. The person I bought them from said 30 days. And they are Musqovies. So 5 more days then. And if I had known that I would have waited 2 days to set them, so they hatched on a WEEKEND. Thank you for the info. I will sit here and wait. Longer. The chicken eggs still haven't hatched tho. They are on Day 23 or so. One was so light when I picked it up. I was going to crack it, but I set it down for a minute on the ground and it exploded. Ewww. Stinky.

Ok. Now I feel really really stupid. I just opened my chicken calendar to change the Duck's "due date" in my records to discover they are not supposed to hatch this week. They weren't supposed to hatch until JUNE 6....now June 11. Chicken eggs are not supposed to hatch for another week either. I guess I really should look at my own RECORDS before I whine.

I'm a little aggravated, was just browsing thru the Farm & Garden section of CL and came across this ad from the Amish Structures up the road from me.

I emailed them last year asking if they build coops and they're response was "Something that small isn't really worth our time building". I guess they're hurting for business if they have time to build them now!

Those guys annoy me on CL. They were posting well over 30-40 posts a day in the rochester farm and garden section. I got so sick of filtering through all their crap that I started flagging them as spam every time I saw a group of their posts. Too bad they're so close to you, but couldn't take time out of posting on CL to build you a coop. They probably bring them in from PA anyway.

They are pretty annoying. They were doing the same here (and by the way I really hate when people from another county post in another county or state for that matter! Really boggles my mind) but lately I've noticed they've moved their postings to the dealer section rather the owner section. I ventured over to that source of listings and it was just them LOL

Nice coop and run NookNook!!

Why people think an Amish person is anymore righteous than non Amish is beyond me. Though I wonder if I dressed the part if people would buy my eggs. People can be so gullible.

I go to the regional market here and folks are going ga, ga over the little old man and his wife selling egg for $2.50 and $3.00 a doz. What they don't know is the "commercial" farm they own is the same one that sells eggs to the school I volunteer at and their paying more for the same eggs the stores are selling for less.

You have to watch and ask questions. I have a friend who buys his apples directly from the wholesaler that folks are the market buy theirs from and are only reselling them. Folks need to look and ask if it's a local farm and locally grown.

I no longer count days. I candle and if they hatch they hatch. The less I stress and mess about the better things go.

Now for me, I can't see buying a "coop". Cuz when you get old and/or decide to get out of chicken keeping then what. They ain't easy to move for the average joe. I say buy a garden shed and use that. When you're tired of chickens keeping you just do what I intend to do. Take all the chicken stuff out and convert it back to a garden shed.

And yes I hate seeing ads for other counties, though I did just have someone come for chicks from Oswego and I had someone come from Hannibal too.
