NY chicken lover!!!!

I lost one of my rabbits today. :-( the door to her hutch wasn't the greatest and I had been wanting to alter it for about a week now but my husband kept leaving his drill at work. Well I finally got a chance to redo it today and when I went up to the hutch to get measurements she was gone! She managed to squeeze herself thru a 2.5 - 3inch gap in the door! And she's pregnant! She's due to have babies any day now. She never came today, took off into the woods and that was the last I saw her. So upset!

Aw, I'm sorry! Maybe she'll turn back up. You could try baiting a havaheart trap with her food if you have one.

So here's a question to those of you who breed and have multiple pens - I have some VERY nice Black Copper/ Blue Copper Marans eggs in my incubator right now and I'm trying to decide if I want to keep a rooster and try out breeding. I already have a mixed flock that's just for eggs and pets and I have two roosters, so the only way for the eggs to be pure would be to have another coop. That wouldn't be much of a problem.

What I'm worried about is keeping another rooster with my other two. When not selling/hatching the eggs, I'd like to be able to let the two flocks out together to free range, and I'm worried the roosters would get right after each other. Is that something that would be a problem, or would they be able to tolerate each other after a while? Would the two flocks just avoid each other? If this is something that's gonna cause problems for my two existing boys I'd rather just keep the hens for the dark eggs and see about adding a rooster sometime down the road when I could fence in a big area for one of the flocks instead of just a run.

I'm so sorry I hope that she comes back I don't know much about rabbits. But I had one before and he came back to his place he would always escape his cage thank goodness they go potty in kitty litter.

First off I don't breed and am new to chickens. But from what I've been reading on here it all depends on your birds. I see a few people here that keep them apart or they would tear each other apart. I picked up some birds the other week they had like 4 coops split in half. They rotated the groups out through out the day.

Hi, I'm new to this thread but have been lurking for some time. My experience is that on many occasions I've have more than 1 roo. If both roo's are dominate then it probably won't work. If one of them will back off and let the other be the alpha male, then all will be good. I have had to get rid of one before because they fought so but then I've had 2 and each as his own harem, so to speak, and they live great together.

Hey Countyboy....if you're interested I may have to forfeit my Lil Roo Fearherz gave me from your PB and Honey. He's bullying the two silkies I thought he'd eventually end up pairing up with. I haven't totally integrated the big littles with the big girls so time will tell...... Any feedback on what behaviors should and should not be tolerated?!? Would you be interested in taking him back if I end up having to rehome him???

I will take him back if you have to part with him. Generally the Cochins will be dominate over my Silkies but over time mine have come to just ignore each other. My Silkies stay with Silkies and the young birds while my Cochins all stay with the older hens. I think they should be fine though.

I actually did throw some jeans on and venture into all the brush behind their hutches. The first time I did it she wasn't far behind her hutch and was able to scare her out and back into the yard. What I didn't realize was that my stupid dog was out and the minute he saw her he chased her. All the way down into our front yard and then she took a sharp right back into the woods. My biggest worry was her trying to get out of the woods and ending up in the street that's 55mph. I tried going back into the woods to make some noise hoping I'd hear her move again but no luck second time around. Looked outside this morning and she's not in the yard. We'll either never see her again or see 7 hopping out of the woods in a couple of weeks IF she has them in the wild and cares for them and IF nothing attacks them out there. But that's having high hopes. Think I'm about done with the rabbits for a while. :-/

Sorry to hear he's picking on yer fuzzies (although most teen roos pretty much are jerks for a while LOL) - but he sure is cute!
