NY chicken lover!!!!

I have been sitting since 11......Mowing! Now to go finish, then riding my horse with a friend at 5....I like it when I accomplish a lot!!

I wish I had a rider. If i win the TSC thing that's what I'll do with the money.

Lynzii - beautiful chick.

Tab - what are you hoping to hatch. I've got these two EE broodies just aching to hatch. I'm fixing to give them some eggs but it still means digging out the EE eggs every night. I'd give the either the Del or Orp coop eggs so I can tell them appart.

Well work tomorrow, gotta go,

Are any of you wildlife rehabers who work with turtles? or know anyone who would work with a painted turtle with a fractured shell? I hate seeing turtles hit like this. It doesn't seem very recent, i think I need to treat him for shell rot too. He's active, I just don't know if I should let him be in water or keep him dry.

Chicks are disappearing from the coop. Of 12 eggs I have 2 chicks left. The last 2 just disappeared while I was at work. I really wanted this breed of birds due to their duel purpose-ness. If the last of them disappear or die I am just going to give up on chicks for the year. Their momma is a stupid bird. Next time I am going to wait for the good momma to go broody before I try and hatch a breed I really want.

On a lighter note my garden is doing great. As long as I keep the chickens out of it, I may have a good harvest.

Thanks lynzi, I can't wait to see the rest of your babies!

Pharm congrats that is so awesome.

So it seems my Barred rock has been going to my big babies coop and laying eggs their coops are attached to the run at opposite ends, I don't believe that the babies are laying yet they are 17 weeks old though should be close two have some red combs. I hope it's my barred because she stopped laying during all that rain and the silkies quickly regained steam keeping my tummy full!!

Silkies 8 BR 2

Well my lil bro and his girlfriend delivered a healthy baby boy today!!!

Question! The 9 week old babies I have in the new coop like to gather up in a corner every night to sleep and only 4 or 5 of them reguarly get up on the roost. Is there any way to encourge them to stop climbing on top of one another and to just get up on the roosts? I mean without physically going in every night picking them up and putting them up there? It's terrible to watch them and it sounds awful.

Mine did this same thing, but they eventually will on their own when they're ready.

No harm if they sleep on the floor.

It's so nice to be home. Work has been crappy this week, following the when it rains it pours method. My belly is feeling like a rock and my tail bone area is really aching. I have to go collect then wash eggs so I have enough for my customer that comes today too. After that I am hoping to spend some time sitting down.

Lynzi-- nice chicks!

Tab, Try this yoga position I learned about a long time ago for lower back pain...
Lie on your back on the floor. Bring your knees up (keep them together) and bring your heels as close to your butt as is comfortable. Now cross your arms over your chest.
Something about this position forces your lower back to relax. HTH!

Keeping my fingers crossed for egg # 4 tomorrow. I put it up to my ear today and heard some scratching back when I scratched/tapped at the shell. (So cool by the way) but I don't hear any cheeping which is making me nervous. So I have two different colored partridge and one splash which I will probably keep, we'll see. I really like that lighter colored partridge.

Tab - hope you're able to get some rest. I do not miss being pregnant, so I feel your pain! I wanted 5 kids and after the 2nd, I said forget it! I was never comfortable while pregnant.

Stony - sorry to hear of the huge loss of those tables! That is awful! I'd be so PO'ed! So now will you have to fulfill that order all over again? Sounds like so much work to have to do again. That just stinks.

Went out to the grocery store tonight and as I headed up rt 20 it had looked like someone's chicken got hit by a car. :-( Right as I approached the top of the hill there was this animal in the road (thought it was a raccoon at first) but as I got closer I saw feathers. Looked like a BR. It was gone coming home so I'm assuming the people that lived right there found it. That is one thing I dread living on this high speed road. If my neighbors chickens are up by the road or in it, people have had the respect so far to slow down. That isn't the case with everyone tho. I don't think these people have many chickens, I've seen more ducks over there than anything else.

Countdown to hatch...
Blackie's 1 egg left is due to hatch on Saturday!

Should be a black australorp.

Blondie is still sitting on her eggs in the garage, but she accidentally broke one today. She's such a friendly bird right now. She makes these cute Gizmo noises when you're near. When she broke the egg she kept looking at the nest and making these noises like she was sad. I'm hoping 2 other eggs are not damaged. Yolk did get on them, but I wiped them off before it dried with paper towel. Hoping they will be okay! They seem clean. She's only been sitting 5 days.
Her Gizmo noises just kill me, though.

Then call hubby to help you off the floor.... Lol.
Actually laying flat on your back is not recommended (as I'm sure tab knows) while pregnant. Weight of the baby compresses the artery. But I would do a similar stretch in bed too while pregnant, just not for too long. It rotates the angle of the hips, stretching the lower back and realigning the spine. I did pilates once in a while before pregnant, lots of great stretches. I had more pelvic pain when I was pregnant. Little girl was head down and would stretch, pushing my hips apart. Guess she was just making room for her exit, it worked. Very quick and easy drug-free birth.
