For us horsey folks, it is 'gelding' a rooster. Castration, "brain surgery", ect. Then they become fat and happy with no reason to fight over the girls. What is this "caponizing" I keep hearing about?

Tab I would appreciate that. My youngest wants a couple lavender orpingtons his friend has 2 hens and my son brought me home some eggs and said mom please hatch me some but I find out they have no Roos so not getting anything out of those eggs.
Rancher our lowes has it the same way which I like because it is easier to handle hubby has a truck so full sheets are nota problem to transport but I only get them if I need the full sheet or it is cheaper that way and even if it is cheaper and I don't need it full size lowes cuts it for you for free so I have them make it into the smaller pieces.
I would love to watch or help someone do it so if anyone local is willing to let me watch/help let me know
I've never seen it at Lowes. What I'm talking about is culled lumber. 51 cents a piece. They used to sell it $1.01 OR 51 cents. Now everything is 51 cents. It might be a little warped or split or have a blemish of some kind. Anyhow that's what I buy and use for my coops. If I need a full, two by, I do buy them, but if there is a cull piece I can use I buy that.
My husband does as well. he is very sad on the morning of round up. I bring them but he does have to help catch them. They all go into the freezer and I wait about a month. By then he is ready to eat them!!One of my friends brought his there as well. I may have to make a trip down in another month or so with my roosters. I just have to convince my dad...he wants to start a "rooster sanctuary"![]()
every time he see's them he tells me how much he likes them.
after they are processed is there any special prep? Like letting them sit in the fridge for a day or so? Then putting them in the freezer? How old are your rooster when they go? How many do you raise at a time?My husband does as well. he is very sad on the morning of round up. I bring them but he does have to help catch them.
