NY chicken lover!!!!

I agree beautiful day even with the heat. The heat beats the temps below zero come winter any day

I'll second that!

Took 4 dozen extra eggs to Gleaner's kitchen (it's a soup kitchen) in Canandaigua today. I will definitely bring more. I popped in during the busiest time and they had a line almost out the door of people waiting to be fed, and the tables were mostly full. I'm glad they can use my eggs!
I haven't had much in sales. Anyone else notice that with the heat? Normally I sell out. Must be because my sign is gone.

I have a temporary sign. I had to get rid of some eggs, as they won't all fit in my fridge!

So I put an ad on Craigslist to try to get rid of 5 of my 3 month old roosters. I had a guy respond today saying he would give me $10 for all 5 of them because he wanted to get them for his nephews...ugh I think I should take the ad down, I'm so paranoid of people being interested in them for fighting. I really don't care if they want to buy them all so they can have them processed but really? I think I just need to "man up" and cull them myself.

You and me both. Looking at Jackson today he's gotten pretty big, but it's his father that needs to go, as he's the one with crooked toes. It ain't that I'll cry, it's that I might puke doing the gutting.

First mistake...posting on CL. LOL Second mistake, letting people come to your home to get the birds. I did that exactly ONCE and will always make the trip to a public convenient place to swap birds in the future. I do NOT want anyone knowing I have chickens, how many and where they roost at night. As paranoid as that sounds, people are getting weirder and weirder and I don't want them coming back to take birds I don't intend to get rid of. Some of the worst predators are 2 legged.
people are getting more and more desperate. Weirder...sure...but more and more desperate.

I brought 20 dozen to a local farm store yesterday. The week before I didn't bring any as I sold out at home. Some weeks I sell out at home, some weeks I don't. But the good news is the farm store pays retail for eggs. Probably pay more than most of you charge.

Another wretched day of scorching heat and humidity. Everyone stay safe and keep hydrated! My birds are handling things well enough, thank God. Hopefully, this will break over the weekend as promised.

My 2 boys are feeding the chickies some grapes now. Good snack in this hot weather!

I have prepped 2 nesting boxes for Helen the Marans. She has such a bright red comb and wattle. I wonder when........ ?! (Rancher, any sign of her sister laying yet?)

JAY: Loved the surprise quacky visitor to your yard! How sweet!

TOB

Honestly I don't pay much attention. I figure when she lays I'll see her egg since she's the only marans in the del coop. She, the EE and the frizzles. Of course their eggs are easy to spot.

Shoot, I had one guy wanted to meet , at night and in a parking garage for chicks. Yeah like that'll happen. He called and I told him, it wasn't safe and I wasn't going to do it. I meet in a public place if it's someone I don't know.

You know it's funny when I hear folks complain but you know there are those who do work and no matter what will never make enough to live on. I always say, wouldn't it be nice if we all had high IQ's? Some folks I work with are mentally challenged and I know live on their own but don't make enough. I almost feel guilty working when I see the people who come into where I work for an application.

I've used craigslist a few times. No one is allowed near the coops and runs. I make sure I know when they're coming and cage up the birds I need to move. The first thing most people notice is a 110# pit mix meeting them at their car. The last batch of chick's that I got rid of, we were going to Fulton so I brought them with me since there was a swap at TSC. They were gone in 5 minutes and we continued on with our trip. Chris

I will never let somebody come to my house to pick up a bird or birds. The only reason I tried CL is because they are roosters. I think I'm going to take them down though it makes me uncomfortable not knowing where they are going. I also have the fear of the sketchy guys showing up thing...

Awww that is the cutest thing ever! She just showed up in your yard with those ducklings? Or are you thinking she's been in your yard and hatched them there?
I looked around my yard after she left and found her nest right under my stairs of my deck. I never saw her and I am always on those stairs along with my dog. I probably looked right at her and didn't see a thing.
