Quite frankly I don't like to see a dog tied to anything. IMO dogs should NOT be tied up.
Agreed, that's why we invested in an invisible fence when we bought our house. We do have a 75 foot run for my wife's pekingese though. He didn't do well with the fence. First time he was zapped it freaked him out so much that he wouldn't go outside for 2 days. Our neighbors a couple houses down have a beagle on a chain. Constantly barking and all the little guy wants to do is run around. He's been in our yard before and doesn't bother the birds at all. I just snatch him up and carry him home. Of course our road is pretty busy and I would rather see him on a chain than hit in the road. Chris

Caught in the act is one thing, but to drag it around after the fact is abuse. Should have left it up to the authorities if the dog had already left.

My TSC Silkie has mutant feet.

The 5th toe isn't fully developed and there are two vestigial toes next to the human finger that are nubs with no nails but do have feathers growing out of them. I'm thinking mine is a Rooster, my sister said he tried crowing today (I didn't see it happen) and the waddles are starting to look Mulberry in color when I hold it and get it mad.
mine don't like to be picked up but once I do just sit there most my chickens do though. Someone I work with gave me a ride home Friday and was surprised my chickens came up to me and was so friendly. I told him its the treats they think we are going to feed them. He wanted to try and figure out what chickens was roos by holding them upside down. I told him that don't work but he didn't belive me. He picked up a red and said roo cause it was flapping wings. I then caught my roo and held him upside down and he just laid there. He said "It always worked when I raised chickens". I'm just thinking "yep you probably axed/sold a lot of hens as roos."

Well I manged to get the newbie back into his pen this evening. While I was placing the stake in the ground that holds the pen in place he managed to squeeze himself thru the top of the pen where the tarp met the top edge of the pen. Guess that's how he escaped the first time. I really didn't think he would try that seeing as how big he is and what little space was left. The big girls went to their coop early because it started to rain again, I tried steering this roo back into the pen and he went into their coop instead. So whatever, it is what it is. I wanted to keep him separated for a couple more days but that's where he chose to be. At least I know he's safe in there and isn't escaping! :) glad I spent an hour of my day putting this pen together with the tarp, getting the brooder pen ready, etc. At least he seems to be minding his manners. Hasn't gone after anyone, or the dog, he's scared of the ducks! Lol saw him go after Stella once she squawked once and he backed down. I'm happy with him so far.

I chain mine up one at a time on 35 foot lead but only for bathroom other wise they inside with us if we go outside they get free range of the 2 acres or so. Now my neighbors down the road i'm about to call spca it sounds like they dog fight sometimes or beat the dog they are like 1/4-1/2 mile down the road and we hear them whimpering all the way up here. True open field and no back ground noise but still shouldn't hear them up here.

Of course he's your son, but is it really necessary to humiliate him further by posting his picture?
He don't read the fourms or know I posted doubt he will be humiliated. Not to mention none of you talk to him to say anything to him. Now if we posted on facebook and family saw and said something then yes it would be humiliating depending on what they say and how he desided to take it. lol just asked him if I could post it and he' said "sure".

I was reading a few replys to that and came across this one.

"Now I may not know the complete story.... but the odds of a dog killing your poor $2 chicken and then willingly allowing a stranger to leash it and walk it to a tree to be tied up without doing any harm to the stranger leashing him just does not appear to be very likely"

I don't know about ya'll but for one I have chickens that was well over 2 dollars. Secondly animals that attack animals don't always attack humans. I sometimes like reading all the replys just to see what people have to say.

Also thank you for the replys on silkies from the start I thought the poof was female and slick was a roo but lately been wondering with the wattles the poof is getting. Country boy I have to tackle my bantam cochins again and have ya take a new look at them the white one has Huge wattles now compared to the other two almost 2x as big i'd say. This little bugger trys to own the food dish when I fill it. pecking the reds away and others. I think it was the main roo who beat him up, not fly bites like I was asking a few days ago.

And for a funny pic/story here is my son. He was pulling his hair out at the front of his head saying he had knots in his 2 inch hair... Also said felt like there was tooth paste in it. So I told him he wants to be bald he can have a horseshoe old mans hair cut. Don't worry only lasted a few min for a pic. He didn't mind it the hair cut. He was crying cause I told him the pulled out hair may not grow back.

That White Cochin there is a rooster. A pretty one at that.

Nice. Glad your having good luck with your roo. Mine I am going to get some pvc pipe for people to carry around till he learns his lesson. I was sitting in a chair feeding them grapes and scooted a hen back she made some noise. Well right then my son runs from me to wife and roo follows like he's chaseing. Then my daughter runs from wife to me and he follows again. Needless to say he got chased around the yard and for once didn't get out of the way when I went after him. I don't think he knew the piece of wood I picked up extended my reach some. I don't like going after him but I wont stand for my kids being chased or pecked. He's real young still so give him till spring to learn his place then he may go to a camp of some sort.

Pretty yes but don't think i'll end up keeping him. Already looking at my main roo and a silkie roo in same coop no problem so far but this little bugger has some big britches and some battle scars already. Have to wait and see what else turns up to be a roo still. Have some grey bantam my leghorn the other two cochins to keep an eye on. Not to mention I haven't sold the 4 I hatched 2 weeks ago and i'm getting 2 turkey's this weeknd. And 4 more in bator with veins.

On the plus side my light Sussex looks like she is getting better so hopefully she will be ok in with the other chickens in next month or so since turkeys will need small coop. Looks like her hock joint was the problem I went to move it around and she move her leg the most when I touched there. She has been locked in the smaller coop with a buddy chicken for like a week now and just now putting weight on it.

Now if only I could get my rabbits to stop wasteing like 50% of they're food. Lots of new pets this year and a lot of learning.

That's how my last roo was. He was a lavender orp that I had gotten with my lavender hen and once he was full grown he was nasty! Bit my dog, went after my kids, bit my daughter, went after my husband. I chased him right outta the yard, thru the woods until he was eventually in the road. Now I live on a 55mph state route, by the time he was in the road I was so PO'ed, I hear a big tractor trailer coming and was like oh good! Hit 'em!!!! Wouldn't you know it, that tractor trailer actually stopped dead in its tracks for this rooster! LOL I was like you have got to be kidding me! I finally got a hold of him and rehomed him. I don't care if he was eaten, he deserved it after going after everyone around here!

Right now I have 5 LF Cochin boys in 1 coop with 17 hens, 3 banam Cochins with 7 hens in a coop, 3 little cockerels with 6 hens in a coop, and then 3 hens hatching a dozen eggs each, plus one hen that just hatched 6 chicks. Then, I have been picking up chicks left and right to put in the brooder. But then I also have my main free range flock as well with multiple boys in with the hens.

Dang. Maybe I will keep him as long as he minds his manners he is good with us I just see him pushing the bigger girls away from food. I feed with a hanging feeder and the bottom of a beat up one I got from neighbor using it as a big plate. He stands in middle of the pan feeder and pecks those that get close to the pan. It's funny when we got him he was the one with least red and smaller wattles than the other two ban coch's. They would jump attack each other and he wouldn't. Now he's the leader of the small guys it seems.

LOL I know the feeling already mine hid in the hay field from me one time and the other time the barn. Then he skirted the edge field/barn to get to coop on the back side cause I was in middle of yard with family.
