We got back our processed meaties Thursday from a great friend and her super nice in laws. They were good enough to do them up for me being I couldn't really help at this point. I'm very thankful. It is nice to have fresh chicken in the freezer.

I'm up and missing my girls. My parents watch them on Fridays so they can have time with them. They called up last night and had the girls ask to stay the night. This is their second night away from me with the grandparents. I haven't seen them awake since Thursday evening and now I'm really jonesing for their hugs and "love you mommies". Some free time is nice but then I need my babies.

Little girl is now on school break from daycare. I'll be home with her Monday-Wednesday next week, then the following three Mondays. I already can't wait for school to start so I don't need to hear the constant whining and crying when she doesnt get her way.
Her last day of school was cancelled, the classroom was flooded. Made us all sad not to say goodbye to her wonderful teachers. I stopped in before work yesterday, the floors were covered in mud and 2" of water in the kitchen. Carpets will need to be ripped out. Not sure of the wood cubbys and toy shelves. And all of the stuffed toys. Playground needs silt removed and the ground rubber refilled. Walmart & Kmart will reopen Monday. Lots of ditch cleaning needed. Southern half of the county got 5" of rain. We are ok, just soggy.

These 2 could give any broody silkie a run for their money. There's 5 eggs under them and they can't decide who's going to sit. I guess the good thing about it is the eggs will never be left alone.

After seeing the aftermath of hurricane Sandy in my parents home I know exactly what people are going through over there. My love and positive vibes for the cleanup to go fast and smooth.

Don't wait. If you are getting flooding get the insurance. My parents got caught with their pants down with hurricane Sandy and no insurance coverage.


Remember all of that talk about Caponing roosters? Anyone who has experience? I will even bring my roo to you! I don't want to kull him just yet but I might have to if I can't find someone to teach me caponing.

We don't get flooding but our sump pump does double duty when we get heavy rains. The house next door is lower than ours and will get it first, but I'm concerned about our basement.

Our property too, borders Butternut creek, and there is an over flow area that gets flooded but I'm just concerned about our basement. When we get heavy rain out septic doesn't drain quickly enough. Drainage here is very poor.

Our neighbor says she gets water in her basement and they cut a hole in the back wall of the house to stick the pipe from their washer through. Then they attached a hose to that and ran away from the house.

I don't call the authorities cuz eventually the house will just fall in and that will be the end of that. It is a rental and the landlord does nothing. I can't see how it passes a Section 8 inspection.

I think all this construction of malls and failure to clear water ways is the cause of all this flooding. The water has no where to go but in your back yard.

I don't know what we can do.

Nutty - what're your thoughts in this Lavender Amer roo? If I gave him too you would you take some other roosters. I've got some Birchen Marans to go. I don't live near an auction so I hate to drive to take them.

Found a pair of Magpies! So excited! I'll be picking them up tomorrow morning. They're a year old too so they should do just fine with my other two as the weather gets colder. That was another reason I didn't want ducklings this late in the year. I would have been worried about them surviving the winter at a young age.

Off to do some cleaning of the coops! Hope everyone has a wonderful day! It's beautiful out there!

P.S. - this person I'm getting the magpies from also has a pair of Mallards for sale ($20) if anyone is interested and wants me to pick them up for them while I'm making the 45 min drive out there. Only problem is, if I pick them up, they have to be dropped off or picked up by the end of tomorrow because I won't have room for them in the duck house.
