NY chicken lover!!!!

Finally set up my electric fence to give the flock more room to wander. They weren't too excited, but in the later afternoon everyone did stroll about out there. When I went to shut everyone in for the night it was dark, but somehow a bunny ran out of the pen into the fenced area. As I watched, it bounced off the hot fence about three times and somehow went through. How did it do that, the meter was reading 8000 this morning! How can I trust this thing if it won't stop a rabbit?

This is a Khaki Campbell egg. One of them is an overachiever.

I find that squirrels and chipumks make it through. They could get zapped but they are insulated with hair. I have never had anything big get though. One smallish rabbit was going though but then as it got bigger, it stopped because it only made it halfway though. It was sometime after closing them and opening them in the morning because when I opened them up, the rabbit had gotton stuck and died during it's struggle to escape. It is the only fatality that I know of. Trust me. Hot electric poultry netting will stop other animals too large to fit though the holes. My neighbor has lost 4 chickens to predators(mostly fox), and I have not lost any in 4 years. I had a hawk attack but the netting can not count. I am very happy with electric poultry netting.

Morning Everyone,
It's finally Friday! These last few weeks for me have been dragging, probably because (like TOB mentioned) I am counting down the minutes till I am done with this place! My head has been spinning from all this quality checking I've been doing. Can't wait to start waking up without a care in the world and just relaxing and tending to my cheeps! Oh, and the kids too.

Definitely going to the fair, just not sure which days yet. Will probably head there once with the kids and dh and then again with just my friend to check out the the livestock.

Finished widening the pond yesterday evening. It's perfect now because of the "levels" it has. It's not just one drop of 1-2 feet of water so it's easy for the ducks to get out. Deeper in the center, shallower around the edges, it's perfect for them. Can't wait to let the rest of the duckers out so they can use it. I'm just nervous about them running off again.

Anyone interested in either of these Magpie drakes feel free to PM me. I'd rather see them go to someone on here before placing an ad on CL and dealing with some stranger. They are beautiful drakes and I really hate to see them go but I just can't have more males than females or even an even pairing. I don't want to stress out the females.

Wanted to share my good news...
My aunt was diagnosed a few months ago with chronic leukemia (this after being on meds for years for severe rheumatoid arthritis). She has been taking chemo in a pill form and just got a call from the doctor yesterday that her blood is LEUKEMIA CELL FREE!!! Her white blood cell count is NORMAL!!!
Feeling very thankful this morning.

FIL's surgery is being scheduled for his bladder.

Girls are on a roll this morning. 8:30 and already 9 eggs laid Wow!

That is FANTASTIC!

I will be at the fair both Saturdays and Sundays working next to the poulty building cooking breakfast and then one other day during the week, probably monday or tuesday to bring my little ones. In years past, not sure if they do it any more, but some of the eggs that were layed at the fair in the poultry were brought over to us to add to our scrambled eggs. Not sure if they are able to do that anymore cause of the health codes and all. I'm looking foward to it kinda, but really not looking foward to haveing to get up at 4:30am to make the drive in and start working at 6am! till 11ish. I'd love to meet some new friends.
