NY chicken lover!!!!

Happy birthday to me... Came home to find Powder Puff in distress. She looked egg bound and was gasping for air and having contractions. I filled up a tub with water but she must have been too far gone an she died in my hands. No sign of an egg inside the prolapse. I have two new eggs today, so whatever color I don't get any more of will have probably been hers.

STATE FAIR CHICKEN UPDATE!!!!

While working at the fair today I found out that at the beginning of the fair there were several chickens that were brought in that were sick. My mom was talking to one of the men that run/supervise the poultry building about how I thought that they chickens all looked sick. She couldn't remember the name of what ever disease that they had, and I was busy and didn't hear that part, but anyways, it spread and there were several birds that died. He told her that they had to disinfect the building, but I'm sure that that they couldn't get it all. There isn't any point during the fair when every animal is out of the building. I glad that everyone that went in the poultry building got all disinfected when they got home. I just hope that all those people that had their chickens there put them in quarantine when the get them home.

WOW. I saw sick hens last year while I was there. I can't believe they don't check the birds for illness before they let them in. That's one place you will never see my hens shown

Evening All,
I think I'm going to try to get to one of my apple trees in the back yard woods tomorrow. I may have to weedwack a path up there, just so I can get to the tree with the big green apples on it. I wanna check these things out and see how good/bad they taste. My son loves sour/tart things so if they're as tart as you all are saying they are, I may have a free apple supply for him!

Hope everyone is enjoying the long weekend. No plans for us really. Did a bunch of yard work today, fixed a rabbit cage, altered another. I'm getting an English Angora rabbit tomorrow from a friend. Can't wait! Also just an FYI, I have another litter of holland lops if anyone is interested. They'll be ready the second week of October. PM if you'd be interested in one.

Me too. I didn't know if it was a hen or a rooster, hadn't laid an egg, hadn't crowed. Many people who I showed her photo to said male. She was a silkie cross, no idea what the cross was to as she looked pure silkie save for some normal wing feathers and huge waddles.

:-/ I feel bad but at least she isn't in pain anymore. I wanted to cut her open to see what went wrong inside but I had a very long day and that is a project I don't want to start right now.

holy s------ are you kidding--that is really ridiculous and, and, and, and,.....unethical, I am just.....stunned. I enjoyed the county fair chickens and ducks a lot more than the state fair. at least they were kept clean. oh my, I am just flabbergasted.... stricter rules need to be in place. fines inposed. oh my....... shut me up now.

im sorry....

Picked 2 heaping 8qt flats of peaches today at Indian Creek Farm. Some white flesh, which I never had before. Some regular yellow flesh, which are delish! Also picked a peck of Bartlett pears. Poor peach trees, a couple of the branches broke under the weight of the peaches. They have other branches propped up to keep those from breaking. Nice little place, lots of stuff to pick. Apples and raspberries were open too.

Quote: I did that too ...I am sorry I think I got the last one ...I only saw 1 chicken charm

That sounds like it could be a yeast infection ..it totally stinks on a chicken . They did have trauma recently ..that can make their system unbalanced too .
Do you give them apple cider vinegar in their water ? it seems that takes care of worms or garlic or hot peppers will too..
a couple of glugs in a gallon ..doesnt need to be exact ..
