NY chicken lover!!!!

Breella, that is great about your photo! And perhaps the other officer can shed some light.

Lynzi, pace out where you want to put the fence and make sure the shorter length will do. Like everything else with this hobby, fencing is addictive. I bought the regular length of poultry net, it has smaller spaces at the bottom, but chicks could still get through. I got extra posts and plan to get more because it sags and zaps the grass.

I actually just went outside with the kids and a tape measure that only measures 6ft at a time. We measured about 100 feet in the left upper most corner of the yard. So I will get the 100ft one and that should be more than enough space for them for now. And like I said, I'm not going to keep them there permanently, I still intend on letting them out once or twice a week. So this will be enough for them and their coop. I'm going to buy this roll, with the posts that are every 6.8 ft rather than every 12. I'm also going to go with the double spikes rather than single. I think those will hold up better.

Hey seems there is a lot going on.

Lynzi = I can understand your dilemma I don't use the fencing because we have day critters killing chickens so I need top coverage but everyone that I know who uses it loves it.

Brella = They are beautiful I'm completely impatient with my young leghorn pullets I want them to grow up now so they have a floppy Combs. I'm also looking for Anconas as well.

Cheeka = thanks for the info good to know. At least they call you repeatedly when a bird has arrived lol.

So about the fair good to know about the vaccination process. I will definitely keep that info on hand.

Rancher = I modeled my coop after yours a little bit but the run I thought I'd be different. Basically I can move both coop and run independently of one another but safely attach them together.

Um funny thing I moved the coop awhile back and built a raised bed in that spot of course I'm new to a lot of this and didn't realize the chickens fertilized that spot very well a now it's over grown. And on another spot I had the coop now randomly has tomato plants growing. These chickens are doing a great job fertilizing, and composting I just can't keep up lol. Plenty of bugs for them to eat though. In Oct I'm going to move the coop one last time to get that winter sun and put a raised bed there nothing should grown too much with winter coming.

The dog part of the yard is really over grown we use those weeds for the chickens and just keep the front yard prim and proper with city ordinances.

So my backyard is kind of a mess due to, too many projects and the police came to do my poultry license inspection and he was scared my dogs would come out of no where and get him lol.

TAB = hope your getting as much rest as possible.

Nutty = I hope your feeling better and your husband is recovering nicely.

A photo of my white leg horns has been featured by Urban Farm Magazine to promote National Chicken Month! A little bit of happiness for me.

I suggest you take this information with you if you need to go to court.

I'm seeing a few different listings for this on Premier, whats the difference between them all? Like for example, this one caught my eye..

http://www.premier1supplies.com/detail.php?prod_id=24022&cat_id=139

I figured I start with the 82' double spike one for $103...Whats the difference between that one and this other one I'm seeing that is much more expensive for 100'

http://www.premier1supplies.com/detail.php?prod_id=20197&cat_id=139

I noticed the numbers change from "12/48/3" to "12/42/3" What do these numbers mean?

Ok nevermind, I think I got the number thing figured out. So those who have these, would I be ok with the one I want to get - 82' for $103? it's 42" high...that should be good enough to hold my cheeps in right?

You should get the one they recommend for poultry. The holes are smaller. your silkies won't go over 42" but your large fowl might. I think mine has a smaller hole, something like 4 x 4 in..You should measure the size of the area you want to fence in. one of 82 feet length would be only 20' by 20' unless you butted it up against something solid.

This would be for the bigger chickens only. Silkies stay cooped up in their coop/run set up. And there are only 4 of them at the moment. I went with the 100ft one. We'll see how it goes when I get it. They don't venture into these woods too far so I'm thinking I could get away with using the brush of these woods as the "back side" of the pen. If they enter into the woods to get out then I'll section it off. Either way they'll have plenty of room.
