NY chicken lover!!!!

My PRs I got last year in May never had a full moult till now. They lost a feather here and there but thats it till this year. The tots are molting a feather here and there but nothing like the PRs. My BR had a juvie moult but she never looked like she was moulting I just kept finding her baby feathers around the coop. I figure the tots will have a full moult next year like the PRs did

I know someone that might be interested. I will get ahold of him and find out. Do you have a picture that I could show him. He might be willing to barter. He has a basement of stuff that he has been canning all summer, and he also makes homemade wine! I know that he already has a rooster and has talked about finding a new one and he has a new found love of marans. Maybe he would be interested. He is one of our closest friends and was the finial push that convinced my hubby that I should get some chickens.

I don't have pics of the young ones, though one roo is a barred frizzle. As for the other they are molting and roosters seem to be getting it worse than the hens. I have posted pics of the hens here before.

As for marans, If you're not showing and you just want the dark eggs I have no doubt marans crossed will matter. These were not supposed to have copper in them but they did and I'm working on getting that out. This is why I recommend caution even from so called breeders. I've no intentions of getting any other type of marans so Birchens are it and I'll continue to cull till I get where I want to be.

I'm always open to bartering. I think it's a great way to go. I do can foods but don't drink alcohol. Lord knows I'm crzy enough with out it.

Hey, you found us!  Good for you, you're going to like it here.

FYI everyone,  CM has BOSS on sale, and TSC now carries Osyter shell in the 50# bag.   If you haven't signed up for their sale ads you should.

My wife bought a bag of oyster shell yesterday. She says it was only a couple bucks more than the small bag.

Quote: I too have 3 Easter Eggers / Americannas ....not laying yet they are 5 months / 20 weeks .
My little Samatra Hen is laying approx a egg a day . Teenie tiny ones ...not even a small egg .
As they are a bigger chicken....I think their egg makers are still growing .
I have heard that when they take longer to lay ....once they start laying they will lay a bigger egg ...than if they started earlier.
Well I really feel like a Gramma now ...When I see how young you all are ...

I graduated high school in '83. I'm closer in age to old our old Stone-age Stony. hehehe.

(And I'm older at that!)

My mom is 85 and she tells me she still feels like a teenager inside her head. I know what she means, because I don't feel any different on the inside, but you sure do see changes on the outside when you hit middle age!

Just got done with bath #3, on my lavender silkie too. He's looking and smelling fresh now! I went out to Walmart this morning (Shhhhhhh Don't tell anyone as I promised never to shop there!) to get some Adam's flea and tick shampoo. I remembered when I got Duncan from Adora he smelled so nice and I asked what she used to bathe them in. She told me she used Adam's Spray. The only Adams Spray they had was for cats so I decided to go with the shampoo, the one that kills fleas, flea eggs, ticks and lice. Has a nice smell and he looks beautiful now.

Also, turns out my two silkie chicks - the splash and the newest, I think it's black, are both roos! Why can't I catch a break on these roos?!? I definitely can't have 3 roos in the silkie pen. The most I want is 2 so now I don't know if I should keep the back or the splash?! Any thoughts on what would be better to go along with my lavender pair?

Is anyone else floored that County Boy is only 16?

You are a very mature young man, I must say! I was impressed with you before I knew your age, and now am even more so. Keep up your high standards for your birds and yourself...I think you're on a terrific path in life!

Welcome to the newbies.

Who remembers these things? We used to let them fly as high as we could then run as fast as we could. Silly kids!

This was a favorite summer family past time for us when I was a kid. Jarts. Now they are banned, I believe. Gimme a break.

Lots of fun, and we got very competitive. My brother found an old set somewhere, maybe eBay -- anyway, we play them when we get together over the summer at the cottages.

I have one of Rancher's Marans that is showing a little copper. I don't care one bit whether she is show worthy or not. She's a terrific and fun bird, and is currently the only one laying in my flock of 7. I love her. So if that might encourage your friend a little, please do relay my recommendation. All the birds I got from Rancher are robust and attractive.
