Things are finally settling down here coops are all winterized and have lights set on a timer so they are getting enough light. I have a new layer one of my olive eggers has started to lay. Can't wait for these ones to start laying I got people all over wanting eggs from me but with my current layers molting and some being broody I have enough for us right now no extras.

One of my pigs thinks he is a dog every time he hears my voice he starts wagging his tail and hopping around in his pen, stupid thing don't even realize that his name is Bacon for a reason LOL!

I have to thank everyone that has turned me to fermented feed my chickens, ducks, and pigs love it and I can already see a difference in the amount consumed and how healthy the birds look. The only thing I am still tweaking is the draining process that is taking forever but I don't have a bucket hanging and draining as it is a pain to try to hang a bucket in the garage so if anyone has any suggestion on another method for draining the feed other than the colander I am using now LOL! it would be appreciated.

Pyxis- you and your neighbor should both contact Animal Control/Dog Warden to at least have the complaints on record, that this is a repeat offense, not a one time fluke. They may talk to the offending neighbor as a warning. Next time you catch him, lock him up and have animal control/dog warden pick him up to keep yourself out of trouble. Around here the Dog Warden picks up the dog, holds it at the shelter and the owners will have to pay a fee to regain the dog. If the dog isn't claimed, he is put up for adoption. At least then he would have a chance with a responsible family.
Problem with my neighbors is it is a new dog each year. Don't know if the previous dog is sold, died from lack of vet care (they let them run at night to keep coyotes away), or is killed for being a nuisance (or by the coyote).

Oh. My. God. That dog was back again today. Luckily I had decided to let the guineas out for the first time today and they went off when they saw the dog. I was in the yard, thank goodness, and I caught him just before he grabbed Lemon, my broody red six link who has chicks. I screamed at the top of my lungs, "If you touch that bird!!!" and he ran away from her. I grabbed him and got my hand on his collar and was about to take him on a fabulous, all-expense paid one way trip to the vet when his owner walked down into my yard calling for him. Guess she heard me yell. I looked her dead in the eye and said, "You better tie up your dog. If he keeps killing chickens he's going to get shot."

She apparently didn't think I was talking about myself, and she pointed over to where my neighbors live and said, "Oh yeah those guys? They've threatened him before." In this flippant, eye rolling way. So now I know he's been killing their chickens too! She then said, "Yeah we've been watching him, but I guess [the person who was supposed to be watching him, I wasn't paying attention, I was flabbergasted at this point] wasn't watching him good enough." In the same flippant way. Then they said they were "working on a shock collar." What? What does that even mean? Go to Walmart and buy a tie out for like ten dollars, how hard is that!? Then she took him home. I was so mad she showed up. If she hadn't doggy was gone. Anyway, I guess I'm calling the police now. Apparently they really just don't care. Either that or I'll bait a trap near the property border and catch him and give him that trip to the vet. Or if anyone else has any ideas how to get rid of him without a gun since I don't have one, I'm open to suggestions. I am DONE with those people and their dog.

If that wasn't enough, while I was out finishing the hoop coop, a hawk did a fly by. Didn't see me until the guineas alerted again and I stood up. Scared the crap out of it and it kept on flying. I screamed "you better keep going" after it and chased it until it was out of sight.

Jeez, my day today.
I don't know where in "upstate" you live. In or near Troy a new indoor shooting range opened up. They also give lessons and will teach you everything you need to know about guns. You would be in very good hands. It might be a good time to get a gun........

@LuvMyChicks1491 - "Got my garden tilled up today. It is now twice as big as it was. I can't wait till next year" This has me thinking, is that why they call it "tilling"? Cuz you have to wait "till" next year to start planting? Ok that was lame...But seriously I'm thinking of asking my neighbor to come till a spot for me so I can start a garden next year.
If you have a garden, you will have an excellent use for chicken poop!!

Morning all. Just caught up on four pages worth of reading. Seems everyone is also experiencing a drop in egg production like I am. Only got nine eggs from 25 hens yesterday. Not good for my egg business! Bill came at me a couple of days ago but made no contact. I was near the coop and the rake was within grabbing range so I made swift contact with him. Surprised the crap out of him and he ran away screaming like a girl. Been wellbehave since then. He is excellent with the girls so hopefully he will grow out of this. He is still young and has some more growing to do.

Tab...great pic of nora. I am surprised you didn't put a new chick next to her.

My neighbor now stalks my yard with her 13 month old son timmy. He loves to watch my chickens, especially when they are out freeranging. I gave her unrestricted access to come over any time with him. He talks to them and watches them for hours! I told her that he will be a future byc man. Love my neighbors. I guess timmy likes to hear my boys crowing in the morning as well.

Ok...time to get to the pharm. Be well everyone.

I'm off for a few days and have almost 10 pages to catch up, and with my older computer it isn't easy to do anything fast. Got my garden tilled up today. It is now twice as big as it was. I can't wait till next year. I did have second thoughts that it might be too big, but I can always just plant grass seed if it is to big next spring. Thought that my BCmaran was going broody the other day so I left her a few eggs. Well an hour later she decided that she wanted to go out and check out the yard with the rest of the the girls and never went back to the nest. Oh well. I would prefer if they go broody next spring. Still no molting. In august I think that they all went through a mini molt. Have been thinking about it after all your commments and I remembered that there were a few weeks where there were feathers all over before they started laying. The older Marans haven't started yet, but I'm in no hurry. My Roo is finially acting like a roo. Of course the minute that I open the door of the coop in the morning he is running around trying to get to all of the girls. There is the one that I have never seen him go after. They are like little buddies. I got them together and they have been close ever sence. She's a Blue maran(Petunia). Anyway they were out yesterday and a big crow flew over and Mr. Speckle sounded the call and they all went running to the cover of the plow truck! I was so proud of him. He tends to try to stay with the girls when they are out in the yard but seems to get mad when they split up. He can't seem to decide which group to stay with. It is usually the one his little girl friend is in.

Gramma - I forgot that you knew my grandma

Tab - She is just so beautiful!

Country - You have just the cutest birds. I love the frizzles. I've been thinking about getting some more bantams next year. I have a D'uccle that I love and thought about getting a few more, but now I'm not sure, maybe a silkie or frizle. Can't decide.

Matella & Rancher - I talked to my friend. He said thanks, but he has decided that he is going to stay with the 30 birds that he has right now, but in the spring he might be up for some more. I told him that I would keep track of who is rehoming what.

Well dear, we are ALL up to some more in the spring, that's why I'm re-homeing these. Sometimes we get up to more than we can handle. Broody hens drive me nuts. I may not use my incu for anything next year. Unless I order eggs, but that is not likely to happen.

No they are ads based on what you are looking at I see ads for colleges probably cause I am always in the college website correcting homework from my online class and Verizon wireless must be cause I just paid the bill LOL!
Well I get ads for booze and I don't drink. What's up with that? Maybe someone in the house is, since this is a shared computer? I'll have to be more selective and look at "free money" sites.
