NY chicken lover!!!!

My girls love chicken wings..... They pick them clean. Their 2nd favorite is turkey. After I've taken all the meat off they get the skeleton and pick it clean as well. The bones all go in the compost pile.

It's advised NOT to put meat in the compost pile.

Upon reading what some do, I'm not surprised there is a predator problem what with the smell of blood and guts floating through the air. This is why I DON'T want to process birds here.

Lost lady bug project

We all know ladybugs are supposed to bring good luck to the farm, particularly when they play a role of predator to other insects, such as aphids, that mischievously lie in wait to devour that prized crop when your back is truned. Did you know, however, that many ladybug species, which use to be common in the United states, are dwindling, some even on the verge of extinction?

The lost ladybug project was founded to better understand the disappearance of the insect and to conserve today's populations. This  not for profit organization needs your help to document the lady bug varieties in your neck of the woods.

Participants are asked to photograph the ladybugs they encounter and then upload them to the Lost Ladybug Project website. If you'd like to contribute to the cause, please visit www.LostLadyBug.org for more information.

This from the Grit magazine.  To bad your are so far away, I'd come down and get a box and let them go here.  When we bought the house there were lots of dead lady bugs inside the front window.  I don't see so many these days.

Oh don't worry Rancher. They're not dead! I vacuumed them and emptied the canister outside! They're not coming in anymore now that the AC units are out of the windows. :-)

bones picked clean by chickens are just that. Picked clean. Not an ounce of meat left. Perfectly acceptable to put clean bones in the compost pile.
My chickens do love chicken guts. BUT I give them just a little, save the hearts for traps and put the rest in my OWB and incinerate the remainder. No smell of raw flesh left. Blood drippings are on cardboard and woodchips which is also incinerated. No dead smell what so ever

It's not mandatory just didn't know who might not like to see bloody things. I just think of it as a R rating on movies some people don't watch R rated movies. So spoiler lets them them pick and choose if they want to see or not.

No hole needed. Dog gets shot and then I drag it to the street and call cops. I would deliver it but after he tried to say I threatened him I think he can come pick it up.

I for one appreciate it. I shut my eyes when CSI shows guts and stuff. It's why I didn't go into nursing also. Though I can handle it if need be. In an emergency I'm be okay but I don't go looking for it.

I did deal with a hen that had her neck torn open. She healed up nicely and laid many eggs when she was ready. Still other folks might be worse and barf into their keyboard.

OMG your a trip.

So sorry about that. I know what you mean some days when I have to go out we just lock them out I made my coop big enough that they can just be locked in it if need be.

I would agree with Rancher call the police and file a report. Then put duane in quarentine I call it sick bay to keep the mood like at my house. THe dogs protect sick bay and I keep it on the deck so I can easily hear and check on the bird. I hate it though. but when they are close to be 100% I move sick bay to the flock and keep them in there but with the flock so it is easy to reintroduce.

Rock on That is awesome.

Yes I was told that the bones were great for compost.

OMG I get yelled at when people find out I feed my chickens chicken. They are omnivores and cannibals. Works for me. If they could they would probably eat me! Don't bother me none that is far more eggs for me.

My roo is a blessing him and I were chasing a baby back into the coop she didn't listen when it was time to get in and I was down a bird and sure enough she was out and scared oh it was laughable to see me trying to catch this bird I was done trying coax her back my roo was call her and we finaly got her in. Normally I would of waited and let them do it themselves but I had to go and wanted to see my Dad.

Rancher your definately right the roos role is awesome I've seen him break up fights and give the younger girls some worms and bugs. I want him to do his job but sometimes I was want to feed him a bowl of worms, knowing him he would just give it out to the girls. I do love my roo his name is Rajesh. I'm a big bang theory fan.

Me too. I've seen them all some twice or more. I should challenge you to a game of "Scene It" of the show.

And just don't expect any sympathy for me if Rajesh chokes to death on Sheldon and Leonard.

I don't put meat in the compost pile. Just picked clean bones, and the compost is surrounded by electric netting. No predators have gone thru that

Where was this held? That's something I would have enjoyed going to! We used to have American Bulldog and would go to the weight pull competitions with the breeder we got him from.
Hi Lynzi, - It was held at Misunderstood Kennels on Rt 11. There are a lot of different breeds pulling. I have 2 rotts & a boxer, my friend has a border collie. Theres also Australian cattle dogs & mixes ( Chihuahua & Dachsund = Chiweenie

) and of course the bully breeds. Once the snow flys the big dogs come out to play............. the malamutes !

I wish I had known about it, I would have gone. Especially with it being right in town.
