NY chicken lover!!!!

That's what I'm putting out their- MY OPINION. It may not be yours but or others but I think people's opinions should be heard. If they aren't then how can we advance in life? I'm not sure if the respect thing is being directed at me or my generation in a whole, but you've got that all wrong. Yes, I have a lot of respect to a lot of people and things and respect everybody's opinion, but respecting a certain person, they have to earn it. People say I'm to young to know what I'm talking about a lot of time, but I know a lot more about certain things than others and there are others who know a whole lot more than me about other things. But, for the most part, I stick to the way I was raised and when people ask for opinions I'm going to put mine out there for them to here. Like it or not, it could help them or others who are interested in listening. But, this thread seems to be about helping others in NY and opinions can be a lot of help in deciding what to do.

proud of you young man! Like you I will not hold back my opinion so as not to offend someone. If someone does not like my opinion it is their right to not like it.

Not at all...Here it is:

1 Egg, beaten
3/4 cup Milk
1 1/2 cup Flour (whole wheat) - recipe calls for whole wheat but I didn't have any, came out just fine using regular flour
2 tsp Sugar
1/4 tsp Salt
2 tsp Baking Powder
1/4 tsp Cinnamon
2-2 1/2 cups of Diced Apples

Beat egg in a large bowl
(there is no step in this recipe that says when to add in the milk so I just added it in after the egg was beaten)

Measure dry ingredients. Add to beaten egg. (And milk)
Mix well

Fold in apples.

Drop by large mounded teaspoonfuls into hot Butter Flavor Crisco. Cook on both sides. (Again, recipe calls for the crisco, but I just dropped them into my deep fryer in vegetable oil)

Drain on paper towels.

Shake Fritters in cinnamon/sugar mixture in a large paper bag. (I just toss them around in a bowl, shaking the cinnamon and sugar all over them and then move them to a clean bowl.)
Nutty, Here is the recipe for the Apple Fritters...

miqwid, thanks for your kind words. Our Rooster was one of the losses.
This Spring we are going to get a Rooster and more chicks. Well,
when you get chicks....one will definitely be a Rooster.

Sorry Rancher....MORE SILKIES TO COME. Regards, Aria

I need to make more too. All of our first apples (MacIntosh) that we picked are no longer crisp, so they're mushy when you make them with something. Plus Macs arent my favorite anyway. I recently picked up Fuji and Macoun apples from Navarino's and I want to make them again with some of those.

On the egg song, my whole flock has been doing that while out free ranging, even the roo. One starts up and everyone joins in. None of my previous flocks have done that as a group before. I've been looking for a predator when they've done it but never see anything.

The barnevelders are the noisiest, and of course they are the last ones to start laying. I'm so excited to see how dark their eggs will be!!!

I can't wait till our barnies start laying either. Where did you get yours from?

I have been on this computer all day searching for a holland lop in a specific color and have had no luck. You would think I would especially since I'm looking in NY, CT, MA and RI. Also looking for one or two more silkie hens to add to my BBS group. Again, can't find any. Trying to find something in time for my trip to CT at the end of this month because I'm not going to be making another trip that way until lord knows when.

Well, if your trip is towards the very end of the month, I have BBS silkies hatching the thirtieth. I could send you home with some chicks :)

They came from Natureberry. They're actually the second group of them this year because of the fox massacre in June. Otherwise I might have seen some eggs by now from them!
Where did you get yours?
